I purchased a 35 Whelen Hunter based solely on my positive experiences with a 45-70 Hunter. I cast and load my own bullets so their usage in these rifles has provided outstanding accuracy and minimal recoil as opposed to what one might experience with jacketed max velocity commercial ammo in such a relatively light rifle. I no longer hunt deer but if in a situation where putting food on the table became a necessity I would have full confidence in my modest cast bullet loads to do the job. Since this is an extractor only rifle, I would probably recommend a rimmed rifle cartridge choice for trouble free operation. The modest price of the CVA Hunter makes it an outstanding value for the Hunter who can make one shot do the job.

I really like this gun. Recoil is stout but managable. Gun is extremly accurate. The only issue I have is the joker is super heavy. Not a gun to pack up a mountain. But great for stand hunting. I topped mine with a athlon 4-16 and it shoots sub moa with federal and hornady 200gr.

I am very happy with my purchase. Shipping was fast, the gun arrived in perfect condition, and at the range was very impressive. I chose to shot Federal Fusion 200gr and at 100yd put two shots a finger apart dead on bullseye. It kicks like a mule but it's only going to take one shot from this point forward. Would highly recommend this gun.

I purchased this as a fathers day gift for my husband! The delivery was much faster than I expected! And my husband is in love with this gun! Bud’s had my rifle shipped the same day that they received my money order. My FFL dealer received it the following morning. I’m pleased with the rifle, a CVA Hunter in .35 Whelen with the 25” barrel. With Hornady 200 grain JSP’s it has considerable more recoil than I’m used to (Ruger RSI 77 in .308), but manageable. The trigger is from what I’ve read, less than 3 lbs. and breaks clean and smooth. Fit and finish is above par for its price range. The only issue so far is with the Dead On scope mount. No matter how tighten the torx screws (w/blue thread locker) in the rings, the scope will move under the considerable recoil. CVA is going to sending a new mount. CVA CR5910 Break Open 35 Whelen 25". I can not find any bad things to say about this CVA rifle. I took it to range, Within 30 minutes it was shooting 3/4 inch at 100 yds with 250 gr Core Lokt.. This gun is a great shooter. I do not fore see any trouble filling the freezer next fall! Thanks Buds

Was fine once i got a working one. First one would not break open so had to send back. Also i think it was on the first might have been second the scope mount was broke. After i got a functioning one got a doe during the doe only season. And seemed to group nice. I didn't measure but was good enough for me and my deer hunting. Lost a star due to the bad one and broken scope ring/base combo.

First gun came in snapped in half at the action... buds sent a replacement immediately, the gun is my favorite to own to date. 35 whelen is a great round and the recoil pad on this gun helps tremendously. once I put a decent scope on I was shooting under 1 1/2" groups at 100 (I'm no professional ) I would recommend to anyone for the money you can't beat it!
