Shot it today for the first time, 50 rounds...the M4 feed ramps needed smoothing, their roughness caused serval Failure to Feed (FTF). You need to rack the forend with authority, otherwise you will again have a FTF - this may smooth in time. The Mil-Spec trigger is not bad and not great, it's a standard Mil-Spec trigger and an upgrade may be in the future. Note: the trigger pocket has the hardware for the bolt release which may impinge on replacement triggers. Before you order, ask if the particular trigger will fit and function in a Troy PAR. Accuracy, although the barrel is not yet "broken in" was acceptable at 50 yards - the factory sights are good. The accuracy will probably improve as the barrel wears and as I find the Ammo that it prefers. Optics for longer, more accurate shot placement will be in the future - a scout scope may be perfect. Overall impression is "good" especially since I live in a very restrictive state. So far, I would give the Troy PAR in 5.56/.223 a " Buy Recommendation."

I’ve owned this rifle for roughly 3 years chambered in .223. I’ve put through roughly 800 rounds in that timeframe and have come away with some key insights. Buds product description states the rifle was 556 and 223 however, the information stamped on the PAR stated .223. I contacted Troy and the service rep stated that the rifle is safe for both calibers. Also, the rifle arrived with the Troy “breach” muzzle break, differing from the product description from buds. The service rep at Troy stated that depending on the date of manufacturing, muzzle breaks may vary. Now, down to performance. I do not regret my purchase of this riffle. It looks wonderful and is accurate. I use this rifle in the restricted state of NY and wait for the opportunity to educate someone on how it is NY compliant. However, after exstenaive use and disassembly, I have repeatedly ran into an issue where the bolt carrier fails to load while pumping. Without extreme authority while cocking and ejecting my PAR is prone to failure and requires multiple forceful pumps to correct. Troy specifically stated that steel cases ammo is to be avoided, as do many other manufacturers, but I can say for a fact that my riffle is completely unable to cycle steel. I found this odd and somewhat unacceptable for a pump riffle despite the manufacturer warning. With the cycling issues with brass and steel I have experienced I would not be comfortable relying on this unit for defensive purposes. To me, that is an unexceptable characteristic in a firearm.

Received 2nd generation of rifle. Picture on Bud’s is 1st generation. This is a well built rifle, however it only comes with one year warranty from Troy. I would highly recommend getting the life time warranty from Bud’s.

I do not live in a state that restricts me from owning a true AR but I did feel this would make a simple and reliable backup to one with it's familiar controls and ability to accept standard AR magazines. Any failure to feed or extract would be due to operator error. It can take a long time to run through a 30 round mag. It comes with a 10 round magazine that has a green follower so you can easily see the magazine is empty plus the follower blocks the bolt from moving forward after the last round has fired. The Pmags I have work the same but the followers are gray. The rifle has little recoil but is very loud thanks to the muzzle break. The gun is very solid and well crafted. Even after the first two hundred rounds it feels quite tight. The stock locks up solid with no movement and is adjustable. The gun can fire with the stock folded but the stock covers the safety so you have to take the safety off first. I can't speak for accuracy because I have no place to test MOA at a hundred yards. I am sure the rifle is more accurate than I am. You can cycle the pump pretty fast if needed to. Like my lever action it is very involved and fun to shoot at the range. The only negatives I experienced is with attachments to the rails. Lights would fall off after a few strokes and the VFG I had mounted bent the bottom rail at the forward screw. I contacted Bud's who got ahold of Troy and a replacement rail was sent within the week. To be honest, with the pump action, the VGF did nothing but make the gun feel less balanced when shouldered anyways. Bud's shipping was fast and their customer service is top knotch. Thanks Bud's!

The build quality of this pump action rifle is top notch. The pump action is light and smooth. The magazine goes in smooth and the fit is nice and snug. The stock is both folding and adjustable. It comes with a muzzle brake so the kick is zero. The trigger was a little heavy but aftermarket triggers will drop right in. The sights are not tritium as stated in the description. My eyesight is bad so I hooked up a red dot. Would definitely recommend.

This is a pretty awesome rifle. I love that it uses the same mag. as an AR-15. The sights are great, although at first when deploying I felt a little binding, but some gun oil took care of that. I only shoot .223 and my first trip to the range had pleasing results. Shooting unsupported I kept a pretty good group, still need to sight in a little more but I'd have no hesitation using this rifle for defense if needed. The pump is really smooth. My only dislike, and it's a slight one at that, is the flat straight edge end of the stock. I did experience some slippage and had to reposition the stock about every 20 rounds. But I was shooting non-supported and somewhat rapidly too. If there's a curved pad that would fit on the end of the stock it would help it seat better in the shoulder. The fact that it's adjustable and folding are nice features of course. A red dot scope or laser would help you stay on target better in a rapid fire situation as there is some movement when cycling this rifle. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and it is a lot of fun to shoot. Kind of like a pump shot gun without the recoil and holds a lot more rounds.
