I bought this rifle because of the short heavy barrel that helps accuracy while not being terribly heavy. I am happy to say that this rifle does just that. I cleaned it up and headed to the range as soon as I got it. I sighted it in with cheap FMJ ammo. I then fired a 3 shot group at 100 yards with some Hornadyt interlock 150 grain SP hunting rounds I had reloaded. It was a one inch group. Every round was just touching and they were spread left to right. There was a varying right to left wind of 10 MPH, so I am sure that the group would have been closer to 1/2 moa without the wind. The stock is cheap and I'm sure that replacing it would be necessary if I was intending to shoot past 700 yards but the stock does free float the barrel. Even if you support the rifle at the very end of the forend, the stock still easily clears the barrel. I am very pleased with this level of accuracy from a sub $500 rifle. I mounted a Bushnell Elite Tactical 10x40 scope on it. It works pretty good with this rifle for target shooting. I think this model savage is the best repeatable accuracy you can get for the money. Good luck.

I got mine a few weeks ago and took it to the range last week. I like the green stock, but that's subjective. The barrel is fully-floated and is nice an "meaty". I put on a wide-angle 3-9 Burris using #46 Weaver mounts and medium Leupold QPR rings, there's no problem with the rather high open sights. That way I can switch easily. I put two kinds of commercial ammo through it and they were quite different at 100 yds despite being spec'd similarly ... but that's not the rifle. The bolt feels great, This is my first accutrigger. Overall I really like this setup.

Awesome gun love the heavy threaded barrel, The stock has been criticized by some for being plastic but I find it fits me nicely and I will be leaving it on. If you buy this gun you won't be disappointed.

Great rifle and Bud's usual excellent service. I installed a Bell & Carlson stock on the rifle before I even shot it. I'm not a fan of the plastic stocks like the one that came with it. I quickly got it zeroed and only tried two loads this trip to the range. After only 21 rounds I tried a couple groups. The first with handloaded 150 grain Sierra Game kings which measured 0.78 inches. Then another with my pet 308 loads using Nosler 168 grain match bullets and got 0.55 out of those. I'm sure with a bedding job on the stock and some fine tuning on the hand loads this rifle will shoot sub 1/2 inch easily. I only have about $1000 in the rifle, stock, scope, rings, and base. Those are impressive results for for a total investment of about $1000.
