I have a grandfathered S&W Model 25 from 1975 that shoots excellent but needed some gunsmithing recently. That thing is by far my favorite plinker and with full moon clips is a joy to shoot and reload. Since it is out of commission for a while for repairs I decided to see if S&W was still up to snuff. I was a little hesitant to pick one up given their post-lock reputation but I sure am glad I did. The Model 625 Performance Center I picked up from Buds (and had within 5 days by-the-way) shoots excellently and might actually be as accurate as my old Model 25. I had just as much fun bringing it to the range as the longer target model and I really enjoy the trigger on this one more. My only complaint about the gun, and one noted by others, is that the laminate red-white-and-blue grips were a bit too smooth for me. I am not into competition shooting and don't need a slick, quick draw grip. I ordered a replacement grip from Altamont with a round/square conversion to "coke bottle" grips and it made all the difference in the world in shooting and looks. This thing has quickly become my go-to for fun shooting and doubles as vehicle security. I would recommend this S&W PC model in a heartbeat.

The only thing I changed was the grips, and only because they're too small for my hands. The action is as good right out of the box as the revolvers I've spent either big bucks or countless getting tuned for competition. And it just keeps getting better the more I shoot it.

Fit and Finish were flawless! Truly a Performance Center Revolver! The balance and feel of this revolver is amazing, they really knocked it out of the park with this gun. Trigger pull was far nicer than any of my other factory Smiths, and Smith triggers are great just as they are, so this was fantastic. Shooting in double action is smooth and it's a great feeling sending those big slugs downrange. For future competition use, I feel this will serve me well. Buy with confidence!

Wanted a heavy duty 45 ACP revolver for competition shooting and found one in the Smith and Wesson PC 625-4. Built like a tank. Only fault I find is in the grips, first order of business was replacing the muti-color, ill fitting grips (reason for scoring a 4 instead of a 5). Now all is good.

First of all, there was the great service from Buds and it's not the first time I have purchased from them. I ordered this gun the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, it shipped Friday and I picked it up from my FFL on Tuesday morning. This is the third S&W Performance center revolver I have. I have a 627 & 929 but this clearly has the best Performance Center trigger right out of the box hands down. I've already taken it to the range with 3 different 45acp loads that I worked up and the gun performed flawlessly. No light strikes. I'm excited to use this gun for IDPA and I may even take on Steel Challenge with it to challenge myself with only six shots. Great Gun & Great Service from Buds.

Wow! This is a nice revolver. Out of the box it functions and shoots well. I have either owned and/or shot many different revolvers and I like this one as well the best of them and better than almost all of them. I did not measure the pull of the double or single action trigger but they both feel good and smooth and not too heavy. The only problem I've had with the revolver relates to the grips (stocks). The upper rear portion of the left grip (stock) panel caused pain in the web space of my shooting hand near the base of my thumb after about 25 rounds so I bought different grips and that problem is solved. I have about medium or average size hands. If my hands were bigger it probably would not be a problem. I mounted a Raptor Engineering mount with a Burris FastFire III red dot optic and together it makes for a wonderful shooting experience. This is a well-made, high-quality, excellent-functioning, highly-accurate, and pleasant-shooting revolver. I highly recommend it.

First impressions: The action is very smooth. However, I had hoped that double action would be a bit smoother than it was out of the box. As normal for Smith & Wesson, this a beautifully made firearm. As expected from other reviews, the grips are not for me. They're smooth and a bit slick. I prefer grips with texture. My solution was to install the Hogue rubber monogrip. Problem solved. At the range: I put 90 rounds through the gun, including 185 grain LRNFP, 200 grain LSWC, 200 grain Rainier copper plated SWC, 230 grain LRN, all handloads, and 230 grain factory FMJ RN. All were equally accurate. I didn't notice that the gun preferred one bullet over another. For comparison, I shot the 625 and a 686 back-to-back. I shot both .38 Special and .357 Magnum rounds in the the 686. I found the recoil of the 625 to be similar to .38 Special +P or a moderate .357 load. The recoil was crisp as it should be and it was easy to get the gun back on target. At first, I considered replacing the main spring and trigger return spring with Wolff springs. But after shooting the gun, I'm holding off on that as the gun got even smoother with only 90 rounds fired through it. In conclusion, I'm very impressed with this Smith. I look forward to using it in both IDPA and steel challenge. It is a fine, accurate shooter.

Reasonably accurate pistol. Double action pull is heavy. Single action is sweet. Minimal recoil. Don't care for the look of the grips but a good feel in the hands. Use auto rim rounds or ACP in GI half moon clips. Factory S&W full moons are less likely to get bent but load from the outside in. Rough on thumb and fingers and, unlike GI clips, really require a tool to snap in and out. Overall fairly pleased.

Completely painless; exact revolver in stock, shipped, and received...together with complimentary confirmation that it complies with home state's convoluted gun laws. Due to those convoluted gun laws, still awaiting the pistol, with 10 waiting period plus weekend intervening. Did examine closely at dealer after arrival, and everything seemed to be perfect. One advisory: was expecting the cylinder to look normal from the outside, but with relief milled out for moon clips at the rear. Instead, cylinder is shorter than expected, and the moon clip sits entirely on the rear outer surface of the cylinder...looks like S & W is saving money, but would be way cooler with a regular length cylinder relieved to accept the thickness of the moon clips.

I shoot a lot of 1911 and I thought having a revolver in .45 ACP would be nice. As usual Bud's had a great price on it, so I bought one.The fit and finish on the S&W is excellent. The single action trigger is very good. The double action trigger is very smooth but a little heavy. The balance of this revolver is good and I added a Hogue rubber grip to it and it feels great. The accuracy with a lead 200 grain hand load is 1-2 inches at 25 yards. Recoil is very light out of this N-Frame. This is a great target gun but also works well for a personal defense gun with 6 big .45 ACP shells in the cylinder. Also, since the gun uses moon clips it is very fast top reload. Overall an excellent addition to my collection.
