This is a fun and well made gun, especially for an inexpensive 22. The action is smooth. The trigger breaks clean, and it's easy to pick up the fiber optic sight. This is the cheapest DA/SA 22 revolver I could find that looked like a defensive handgun. It's actually fairly hard to find anything like this that also has adjustable rear sights and doesn't cost a fortune.

If I could give 4.5 stars I would have. This gun feels and shoots fine and is a good bargain. The finish is good (not great). The cylinder had noticeable burs on the back out of the box. This did not affect operation but it speaks for the workmanship. The elevation was off pretty far when I got it but easily adjusted in. I wish they hadn't decided to stamp the word "plinker" in gold on the side but that was in the photos. The fiber optic sight is nice. I've put a good amount (400 or so) of rounds through it with pretty good success. CCI Blazer, CCI MiniMag, Tula, Eley all worked fine but Amscor fouls the gun quickly making the brass hard to eject. At one point after shooting the dirty ammo it quit locking up so I had to do a total tear down and clean. (I blame the ammo) The grip is too small for my big hands. No one makes a grip for this gun that I could find. (the Pachmayr made for small frame Rossi's does not fit.) The Taurus safety key serves no purpose for me. Summary: This is not a Smith or Ruger, but it's not priced that way. It's a good value and solid, pretty well built gun.

The Rossi arrived at my local range / dealer today and I have already put 200 rounds of Federal Target and some Winchester through it. Nice thing about a revolver is they shoot everything. This one is no exception. No problems. I have been trying to find one of these since that were introduced at the SHOT show in 2012. After many months of searching, I finally found one and Buds had it. I wanted the 4 inch version and they are scarce. So, what do I think? It is really good. Problems are trigger and hammer are a little gritty. I will fix that. One cylinder bore is a little tighter than the rest. The site's are so so. The front fiber optic is great. The adjustable rear is just so so. There are no real detents and the adjustments are loose. I will add a Burris Fastfire to it. That will cure the site issue. That will require drilling and tapping the frame which is not a problem for me. Now the good. The finish is great. The overall appearance is great. The full underlug is great. Adds considerable heft to the gun. It groups!! Boy does it group! Very nice barrel, The grips are a little small for my gigantic hands, but they are also great. The recoil is NONE. The trigger is wide and smooth. The hammer is wide and checkered. I have a Rossi 357 Model 972 that is a wonderful gun. I have added a DOT to it and I love shooting it. This 22 is not as nice as that, but it is nice in its own right. I think it is a great deal for the price. A few mods here and there and I am sure it will be a great shooter. I really like Rossi's and Buds! I would buy another Rossi, and I may! Thanks.

Bought this baby when it was listed in the "other handgun" section. Very well made revolver. Locks up nice and very accurate out of the box, the high viz sight does a fantastic job. The puppy is all steel and shooting 22lr makes this shooter accurate and recoil basically non-existent. This is the sixth time I've bought from Buds and as always I'm quite satisfied with their service and products. FIve stars all the way on this little gem.

I just picked up this gun from my FFL dealer and took it to the range this weekend. After about 100 rounds of cheap bulk 22 downrange, I can tell you this is just about the best 22 revolver for the price. I have shot many revovlers including Smith, Ruger, Colt, CA, Heritage, Taurus, and I put this right at the top. For 300 bucks this is a steal. It is very solidly built and suprisingly accurate. If you are looking for a great 22 revolver but cringe when you see the price of the Smith 617, don't pass on this one.

I was only able to put 32 rounds through it. Zero misfires using Federal AutoMatch. Double action was long and generally smooth but occasionally you could stop just before firing, steady your aim and squeeze one off. In SA the trigger pull is very light and short. It feels very solid with some weight to it and it has a very light kick when firing. I have no problems with the rubber grip, it felt secure in my hand. I do not have a lot of experience with handguns, inspecting the revolver closely revealed what I would call excellent quality. Various parts fit together very smoothly, the seams between two adjoining parts is very smooth and barely noticeable. The cylinder works easily with very little gap between it and the barrel when cocked. At this point I'm sure the R98 will give me a lifetime of good service. The finish of the R98 was a bit of a disappointment. It is called "blued", it looks more like a black powder coat. The trigger and hammer should be silver, they have a lot of black and brown areas that distract from a nice looking firearm. Flat area's at the tip of the barrel look like they have tiny rust spots under the "bluing". The plate that covers the trigger mechanics is a slightly different color than the rest of the gun. This is not a show piece, it's a practical weapon for everyday use. I may polish the trigger and hammer but the rest of it is fine with me, I don't have to worry about getting it scratched up.

If you’ve found this listing, congratulations. Bud’s has done their best to keep it hidden. I couldn’t find in under the Rossi listing and it doesn’t show up when you search for .22 revolvers. Ordering and shipping from Bud’s to my FFL was quick with no issues. I was looking for an affordable .22 DA revolver. As I cannot afford a S&W and don’t like the reviews that the Taurus revolvers are getting, I decided to try this Rossi R98 as a different option. What we have here is an all steel frame 8-shot .22 caliber Double Action revolver. It comes with Taurus style grooved rubber grips, a vented ribbed barrel, and adjustable sites. Fit and finish of the gun is very good, the action is smooth and the lockup is tight. Out of the box, the double action trigger pull is reasonable and single action is excellent, crisp with a clean break. At my first range session, I fired 200 rounds and am very happy with the performance of this gun. I had no problems producing nice tight shot groups and found the sites were spot on at 15 yards. My bottom line: If you have unlimited $$, by a S&W. For the rest of us, give this Rossi a try. I’m very satisfied with this handgun.
