Rock Island Armory 51643 TAC 1911 Compact 8 1 9mm

What a great place to order guns at Bud%uFFFD%uFFFDs. I shop around so don't let other places fool you with cheaper prices. I almost bought my RIA at another site, but once you fill out forms, head to the check out, they add shipping and other fees and it's much more than Bud's.

Took my RIA to the range today and boy was I surprised how well it shot at 10 to 15 yards. 10 yards, 3" group and 15 yards, 5" group. I'm not a bad shooter, eh.

I have several other 1911's from $600 to $1000 ones and I was very impressed how well this RIA under $500 shot. Heck, it shot just as well as my $1000 1911.

I've read reviews after reviews on 1911 forum and well like always mixed reviews from bad to very good. At first I was very skeptical about purchasing the RIA because of the price, you know the saying goes, "What you pay is what you get." Well, tell you what, I got whole lot more than what I payed.

Well, here is the review from the time I got the thing, range performance, and take down cleaning. When I received my RIA it was in a plastic bag with oil all over the darn thing. I mean oil all over...I think at the factory, they put the gun in the bag and pour oil all over it so be ready to clean it before you mess with it.

At the range I had two different ammo brand the cheap and mid range priced 9mm FMJ. Both worked well and didn't have a single misfire. The RIA ate all 200 round and was on target from the first shot.

Take down for cleaning was little different with this 1911. You have to use a paper clip to slide the top off and pull the barrel inward for this one. Little different, but it was easy taking it apart. Let me warn you this RIA is not the best looking gun around. On the out side it's just flat black coating and can scratch very easily so be careful not to bang this on the hard object. On the inside, it's little rough and not smooth as my other high dollar 1911, but it still worked very well.

Con: The outside coating is like one layer and can scratch easily. Inside is little rough and full of oil from the factory. The rubber handle grips are still oily after I cleaned it. Taking it apart is little weird, but not too complicated. The front sight is flat black so had hard time focusing the target. Will change the front with F/O.

Pro: The price is great for what you get. The slide and the frame are tight and not loose at all. It really accurate for 3.5" barrel. The back sights are good. Had no problem with the back sight except front is hard to focus since it%uFFFD%uFFFDs flat black. I just put some white paint strips on the front for time being. Like I said I will change it out to fiber optics later. This is small enough to carry and not heavy like my other FS 1911. Heck, carry my FS 1911 and you'll have hip problems later on and not only that people will think you're shop lifting with a bulge on your side hips.

Final conclusion, this will be my new carry HG because I won't be afraid to bang this up a bit. 9mm are cheaper than 45's and the price is so good I might buy another one for my other side of my hips...two is better than one, right?

Excellent gun. A bit stiff on the safety out of the box but broke in very quickly. Shot 200 rounds no problems. The trigger was excellent smooth right from the start.
Works very well with MEC-GAR magazines. Low recoil. Full size guide rod requires a paper clip for field stripping. Overall very pleased.

Worth double the price! Buds shipping was fastest ever. Ordered on Monday and picked up on Friday and that included New Year's Day holiday in that week.
Shot 200 rounds with zero failures the gun has a nice feel and the rubber grips are very comfortable. Metal form mag that came with it is very good and I just ordered a few more. I have guns that cost triple this one and although they might have a very slightly better finish that's really the only thing that's better. I highly recommend this gun to anyone not just someone looking for something cheaper than most 1911s the only negatives I could say are the parkerizing is a little light in some spots and the gun came with a single side safety not ambi as noted in description but I'm fine with both as I'm now going to cericoat this and was planning on removing the ambi safety anyway. I look forward to shooting and carrying this gun as part of my daily rotation.

Their shipping was amazingly fast. I purchased it on Sunday and picked it up on Wednesday. The price was much lower than I had seen it around town too. I haven't fired it yet, but it looks great and is solidly built. I'll definitely shop at Buds again
