This is a fun gun to shoot, even for my recoil-adverse spouse. It seems to favor round nose FMJ rounds, the flat nose/point rounds occasionally have feed issues. The 4” barrel helps with accuracy out past 15 yards. Actually cost more than my full size RIA Rock 1911 (5”), but the little Browning does well with JMB’s other ACP round.

Gave this 4 stars out of 5, the good first: 1. I was looking for a pistol that would optimize the performance of the .380 round. Ballistics tables, and my own testing, in short barreled "pocket pistols" like the Sig P238 (I own one) limit the over all velocity of the standard .380 to between 800 and 850 fps. I chrono'd 20 factory rounds each of PMC ball and Hornady Critical Defense and averaged between 1040 and 1095 fps. As good as I expected. 2. Sights are better than most small pistols, although a little narrow. Dots help a lot on this pistol. 3. Trigger is not bad, but not quite as good as I would expect from a $700 pistol. Despite the "average" trigger, accuracy at 7 and 10 yards was outstanding, and at 15 it was excellent. Much, much better than I achieved using the Sig P238. 4. Shot 250 rounds, a mix of PMC ball, Hornady and reloads. No malfunctions, misfeeds or problems of any kind. Magazines ejected cleanly, and loading them was easy, even to max capacity. 5. 8 round magazine is 2 more than my typical "pocket pistol", and this is very easy to conceal with an in IWB and an untucked shirt. Very light and comfortable to carry. Now the "bad": Not a pistol that feels like it is rugged. The 1911 is usually built with an all metal or at least allow frame, with all steel internals. The Browning frame is made of a polymer feeling lower, and unlike the Glock or Springfield XD, is very thin at the forward edge of the frame. (should be fine, but does not give you the impression it will take a lot of misuse). There are three internal parts made of plastic, one of which is the recoil spring guide. I did not like the feel of that part, and some message boards report that part cracks some of the time. I solved that problem by buying an aftermarket one made of steel. Works pretty well. Overall: For what I wanted, this pistol is fine. For a light, effective civilian concealed carry that gets the ost out of the .380, it is a good compromise.

The "baby 1911" has a very manageable recoil. Not like a 22 but not much more that 22 either. Browning has put together a fine product that fits the small hand and is easy to control. Good ammo availability (so far) and quite accurate right out of the box. This model has been difficult to find and I'm happy to have it. If Browning would make a few more magazines for this little gun, I'd be even happier. Having several magazines loaded up and ready to go helps to ensure that the time is spent on the firing line and not sitting behind the line stuffing cartridges into the ONE magazine that came with the gun. (Hello? Browning? Magazines, please. How about stampin' out some?) Buds Gun Shop -- typically excellent service and prompt shipping exactly as promised on their website.
