If you want a very high quality full featured 1911 that conceals better than a full-sized pistol without sacrificing capacity, the Range Officer® Champion® from Springfield Armory® offers finely tuned performance in a smaller and easier to shoot package. The RO Champion® brings the precision of a competition pistol in a shortened and lighter-recoiling configuration.

The RO Champion® is topped with a fiber optic front sight and a low-profile combat rear sight, so you have maximum visibility in any situation. The single-sided thumb safety keeps things simple and functional. The beavertail grip safety, extended lightweight trigger and flat mainspring housing, along with a lightweight aluminum frame add to the list of RO Champion™ features. A fully supported ramped hammer forged barrel allows for no worries for premature wear that would be of concern from alloy frames. Our barrels feed ramps are bullet to barrel not bullet to alloy. The Range Officer® Champion™ adds up to a versatile pistol that is great for an everyday carry or home defense pistol.

Fit and finish are nice, I would expect nothing less from Springfield Armory. I really like this gun as my everyday carry. It small enough to conceal yet has all the stopping power I need. Buds was great to deal with.

Excellent firearm for the price. After a year the finish began to show some wear at the muzzle. PRO's.. good shooters, lots of "Extras" at no increase in price Cons.. the guiderod setup is a pain.

The gun's finish looked better than expected. Arrived free of flaws. I took it apart to clean it and the fit was nice for the price of the gun. It was lacking the takedown piece to remove the spring and barrel but an email to Springfield solved that. You can disassemble without the piece but it was quite challenging for myself. Overall, very pleased with the gun. The gun earned these four stars.

So glad I chose the Springfield Range Officer Champion pistol as my first 1911. Comfortable all day carry with the 4" barrel. Typical high quality built pistol from Springfield. Now I'm hooked on the 1911 platform and this will not be my last Springfield.

I went the slow route. 90 day layaway, but I guess that just makes me qualified to comment about it, as well as the RO Champion. Sent my final payment on the 1st through the E-check option. Saved me money on the total but my gun didn't get to the FFL until the 11th. With 2 day delivery, that's 9 days for the processing and readying for shipment. I'm sorry but that seems a little long to me. Especially when the money cleared my bank on the 4th. Next time I'll just pay of it outright. As for the RO Champion, it came with the Springfield Essentials case that we've all come to love. 2 7-round mags, paddle holster, and mag carrier. The gun is everything I hoped it'd be. Brand new. I've cleaned it up and put some 185 gr FMJs down range. Sights are dead on. 1 inch groups at 25 yards. Only complaint is the trigger feels a little rough on the pull. Nothing a trigger job I planned on doing anyways won't help. Overall, this is a great gun for carry, range, and home defense.

Just picked up this gun from my FFL dealer this past week. This is a beautiful gun. This is a great price for a gun of this quality. I have not shot it yet and cannot wait to get to the range. My only complaint is field stripping. I broke it down last night and it wasn't easy. Getting the slide off is simple; however, removing the recoil spring and rod is a chore. You have to push the rod against the tension of the spring until a small hole is exposed. You then have to take a small wire, I used a cut piece of a paper clip, and insert it in the hole. Once done you can remove the rod and spring. I think the typical barrel bushing or the clip deal used on other models is a better system. The only other issue I had was trying to get the slide lock back into place. After a few tries I was finally able to get it back in. I wouldn't let my comment deter anyone from purchasing this gun. Now that I know the process I will be better prepared to break it down in the future.

Third firearm I purchase from Buds and have had excellent service. Now for the gun: * The performance on this handgun has made me decide my 3rd 1911 will be another Springfield. * Great for conceal carry, sits very comfortably while driving and sitting. * Dead on accurate out of the box, no complications of any kind. Fed it 7 types of brand ammunition for a total of 340 rounds and ate through everything. * The only negative I have about it and that's because it's not even performance related, is the finish. Be very careful it appears to be very delicate with just about any little scuff, the holster already provided was immediately thrown away. *Highly recommend

It took me a while longer to get this firearm than the usual few days...It actually took over 3 weeks. I don't really have an issue with that since I emailed Buds and they got back to me immediately telling me that they had a surge in firearm sales due to a certain POTUS speech...Understandable and I do not blame Buds one bit. Every firearm I've purchased from Buds has been top-notch and Springfield Armory products been exemplary...but I have a couple negatives (For Springfield Armory, not Buds) First the negatives (and the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars); I always field strip and clean a new weapon before going to the range and I have to say, this 1911 is a pain in the neck to remove the guide rod & spring. There is a small plastic piece that takes the tension off of the guide rod spring so that you may remove it. I've watched a couple instructional videos where it can be removed without the plastic piece, but I had no such luck. Of course, the plastic piece got misplaced at the range yesterday...as I knew it would, eventually. I have ordered a couple spare tools, but I have to wait until they arrive to clean the weapon. I have been and always will be opposed to any firearm that you need a "Disassembly Tool" to perform a simple cleaning. You should be able to take down a weapon, easily, with your bare hands. This disqualifies this firearm from my "Bail Out Bag". There is a reason the 1911 has had the same design for 105 years...why change it ? Even with the tool, it can be challenging to reassemble the weapon without marring the finish (yes, even with the idiot scratch protector). Another issue I had with it...speaking of the finish, is the holster that comes with it. Just ONE draw from that holster put a large scuff on the slide. I was not happy. I understand wear and tear over time...but on the first draw ? OK...With the negatives out of the way, (in reality there were just the two) lets have some positives here ! I have taken it to the range 3 times already, about 100-200 rounds each visit. Each time, the Range Officer Champion lived up to it's name. It's light, the grips are exquisite and fit perfectly in my hand, dead accurate right out of the box, sights are extremely easy to see (even in low light), recoil / muzzle flip is slight, the trigger pull / hammer drop are phenomenal (like pressing a button...the trigger pull can be adjusted but I found it perfect out of the box), it fired flawlessly, ZERO feed jams, ZERO fail to feeds (even with hollow points)....oh, and it just looks COOL. I went shooting with a female friend of mine, who is rather petite, and she ended up firing my RO Champion more than her .32 auto...she said it had a lot less "kick" and was much easier to see / hit the targets. Except for a couple design issues (in my opinion, of course) which in no way affected the weapon's performance, this is a a true testament to Springfield Armory's aesthetics, quality, and reliability.

The newer guns (small case) come with single flat recoil spring, and theres no longer a lock on the mainspring. This MIGHT have something to do with it.
p19136L has small case with two mags and keyed/cable lock. Single flat spring recoil system, and no lock on mainspring housing
