Sig Sauer's remarkably ergonomic P227 is a .45ACP with a 10+1 capacity, but you would hardly know it from the thinness of the grip. It fits most holsters designed for P220R and P226R. This DA/SA pistol has an alloy frame with an integral accessory rail and has a flat dark earth finish. The stainless steel slide sports a flat dark earth finish and Siglite night sights.

Coming from someone who owns multiple Sig pistols, there are more economical choices out there. I like my Sig pistols and dont regret buying them, but for the amount of money you pay for one of these i expected more. I was deciding between a P220 Combat or this P227 FDE. I opted for the P227 because of the extra capacity, and Buds didnt have the P220 in stock when i had the itch to buy a new pistol. Lets start with the good. The finish is awesome, Sig does a great job in applying finishes to their pistols. (this holds true in my 1911 scorpion as well) The sights are nice white three dot, with the tritium insert. Construction is typical Sig, tolerances are very tight, action is smooth, everything is buttoned down nice and secure. The decocker is nice, scary to most new shooters but like with the Beretta M9 decocker you just learn to trust it. Trigger pull is heavy but smooth in DA. Light and crisp in SA. Now the bad. You pay for the Sig name, accept that or move on. The trigger in DA is very far forward, i have slightly smaller hands and the location mixed with the weight of the trigger in DA makes it almost impossible for me to pull it back without altering my grip. The grips arent the worst, but on a thousand dollar gun, nice G10 grips would have made a worlds difference. Now my biggest concern. Reliability. I have found that with all of my Sig pistols, you have to feed it what it likes, or it will bite you. This pistol will not make it through a whole magazine of flat nose .45 ammo. Also shooting lower power ammo is a no-go. Flat nose .45 cause FTF, and lower power ammo causes FTE, on a more regular basis then i feel comfortable with. So ultimately, if you have the expensive taste for Sig pistols and their respect their overall quality, just make sure you have the funds to feed it higher quality ammo and you'll be fine. But if you are looking for a workhorse of a gun that goes bang every time you pull the trigger no matter what your feeding it, look elsewhere.

After a 1000 rounds or so for a break in period I teamed this with Streamlight Tlr 2 and it pulls bedside duties. Extremly accurate on the range 2 inch groups at 25 yards a couple times, so it is quite a shooter when I do my part. Zero stoppages with the p227 regardless of ammo. Finish has held up better than expected so thats a bonus too. Large for a carry gun but aluminum frame makes it a do-able carry option. This was my retirement present to myself for 24 years of Army service and can honestly say if this gun wasn't competent it would have been gone long ago. 100% confident in this gun.

Excellent SIG! Fits perfectly in my P226 and P220 holsters. I'm not a fan of the E2 one piece grip so I added a set of Hogue Piranha grips and it looks just like a Sig Scorpion and feels even better in my hand. Also, for some reason Sig decided to not include the Short Reset Trigger (SRT) on any of the P227 models except the SAS carry version but I prefer that performance enhancement so I installed one (about 10 minutes). Now it's PERFECT. I won't be selling my Sig P220 Stainless Elite as I am a Sig collector and they are both great 45's. I'm far more inclined to carry the P227 than the P220 due to the weight difference with the P220 becoming a safe queen. Adding two more 45's in a standard magazine without changing the grip dimensions noticeably doesn't hurt either. The P227 is a terrific addition to the Sig lineup.
