This is my second BFR with the 500 S&W being the first. You can read my review on that as well. I love the cowboy caliber concept in general. This is where the cowboy for example carried his 44-40 rifle and pistol. Two guns and one ammo to keep up with and share. I already have a Marlin lever in 45-70 Government, 44 Win Mag, and 450 Marlin. I had a revolver in each of these calibers also except 450 Marlin. This is where Magnum Research came through for me. It has all of the same attributes of the longer barrel and balance as my 500, but pairs with my Marlin lever action. The only small gripe is that it only a 5 shot. I can live with this though. My 45-70 companion revolver is a Century 100 6 shot that I purchased back in the 70's early 80's. It is actually too large to carry with it's huge cylinder and 12" barrel. Another thing that I like about this BFR is that if you send it back to Magnum Research they will match you up another cylinder in 45-70. Now you have a true convertible gun with only a cylinder change and a lot cheaper than buying another gun. I've not done this yet, have seriously considered it. You won't regret getting this BFR in the healthy 450 Marlin caliber. Bud's Guns is the best place to get it.

This revolver is as advertised, a BEAST. Which is exactly what you want if you are buying a gun like this. I collect and shoot powerful hand guns, like the S&W 500, the S&W XVR460, 50AE Desert Eagle, 454 Casull, etc... So I had to give the BFR .450 Marlin a try, and was not disappointed. I will start with the grips. I always go with rubber grips on anything over a 44 magnum. Not just for the added cushion, but I can get a much better grip on the rubber over a hard smooth grip. This is very important with the recoil on these guns. Before I had shot the BFR .450 Marlin, my S&W 500 was the only revolver I had shot that bruised my hands. The 500 gives me about a 5 day bruise, the 450 gives me a 3 day bruise. I have heard many people say the 450 had the stronger recoil, I just felt it was not quite as strong as the 500. The 450 is a huge shell, but a lot of that powder burns outside the barrel. The BFR is accurate, and the 10 inch barrel does make it easier to have a good grouping. The BFR .450 Marlin grip shape is like the old west revolvers. No scallops for the fingers. I was very pleasantly surprised though at what a good grip I could get on it. Wear very good ear protection, it is super loud. I am a shooter, not a hunter, but I a sure it will knock down anything out there. Wrap up.... The BFR Marlin .450 is a very well made revolver. The recoil is serious, but the weight of the gun and grips do make it manageable. My last comment, yesterday I shot my Desert Eagle about 36 times. The 450 will be in the same class my 500 is in. I will still take it and shoot it, but not as my main gun of the day. 10 to 15 shots max. It is that much of a BEAST, But, that is the reason I bought it, and I would again. Hope this helps you with your decision.

Outstanding firearm. It is a beast. Like the Magnum Research site says the recoil surprisingly is not as bad as one would expect. That being said,do not be fooled, it is not for the faint at heart. At $823 it is a great deal. It lists for $1250. Bud's is awesome. It shipped as promised and arrived three days later at my FFL. I am unable to find a local dealer that comes even close to Bud's prices. The BFR is very accurate. It is a fine example of quality craftsmanship. It is a large firearm and is heavier that most revolvers I have handled. One other thing, with the 450 Marlin and the 45/70 Gov't models, the cylinders are interchangeable. Simply send firearm to Magnum Research for a cylinder of the other chambering. Of course, there is a $200 charge for the cylinder and assoiated shipping costs. That just sweetens the deal. Thanks Bud's. I will dealing with you again in the future. I am telling all my friends about you.
