This revolver was in surprisingly good shape for its age and past service history. I bought two of them (who could pass up these at the price?) and both are great. One of them is clearly an old NYPD service gun, it has the matte stainless finish, serial number on the frame under the cylinder/above the trigger (on the outside), and "NY-1" marked inside the frame. The other has the standard S&W stainless finish and no NYPD markings. Both have the forged/hard chromed hammer and trigger and firing pin on the hammer. I believe that makes them 64-5 models (I don't have them in front of me, they might be 64-4). They do not have the reinforced "magnum" frame that started appearing in the late 1990s, no MIM parts, and no internal locks.

Awesome, quick transaction with Bud's. The gun itself was in used, but very good condition. There were some light scratches that are to be expected, but no rust or nicks. This has become my favorite shooter. The DAO trigger is the best trigger I have ever handled. The action is smooth and I can shoot this gun like a laser. One of the most surprisingly pleasant guns I own. I would buy another in an instant.

This is one of those guns that every revolver lover should have. It's simple, strong, accurate, and with it's stainless construction, should last a long, long time. This gun came with the bobbed hammer and double action only set up. Perfect for a house gun or snake gun. The grips had seen much better days, but I'd planned to replace them anyway, so no foul there. I'm VERY happy with this gun!!

finally got to shoot this thing today.....158gr lead rnd nose 38spc......required a 6 o'clock hold.....very accurate at 15 yards as expected. DA only/no spur on the hammer....a good 8-9 lbs.....maybe a little more.......mine looked like it had been in somebodies desk all these years.....wonderful weapon.

Smith & Wesson revolver how can you go wrong ? Cleaned up very nice. Not disappointed at all. If I had the extra money I would get another one. Very smooth DAO trigger pull.

The firearm is not bad at all. I sent it back to BUDS for a small repair which I didn't think I could do myself. After taking it to the range, I was very impress with how low the recoil was including +P rounds. Although it took me longer to officially have possession because of New York State 5 week waiting period, I couldn't be happier. Thanks BUDS for all your support. Gladly appreciated

First time buying from Buds and overall experience was good. Order process was easy and the gun was shipped quickly. Received a 64-5 with actual DAO hammer (no single action sear). Overall gun was in good condition, some light scratches and a few small gouges. Deffinately had a lot of carry time. Grips were servicable, right side being more worn. The insides of the grips were slimy and are starting to break down after being in contact with oil/moisture for 25 years. Inside if the gun was filthy and there was purple glitter in every nook and cranny. Insides looked like they have never been cleaned. However the insides cleaned up nice, the bore was bright and shiney with crisp rifling after a few patches. Stubborn burn marks in the cylinder and a couple of small burrs on the cylinder notches. Yoke fit great and there is no forward to back slop in the cylinder. Timing was ok, two of the cylinders dont lock in if you pull the trigger extremely slow, under normal firing they locked up fine however. Fired 150 rounds and no lead shaving or other issues. Overall was what I expected, a serviceable gun that needs some minor work. Would purchase again.

Buds was great as usual. I've bought several firearms through Buds and they've always had fantastic customer service. I was pleased that the model 64-5 I received was better than good (minor wear marks that could be buffed out if you're OCD). I changed the grips out for Pachmayr compact grips and gave the revolver a good cleaning. The trigger is very smooth and significantly lighter compared to the other new K frames (model 66's) that I have. At the range, she performed flawlessly and was a real joy to shoot (DA only). I was shooting .38 +p's and the accuracy was spot on. If your in the market for a revolver for a very high quality Smith & Wesson .38, I would highly recommend this revolver. Even over a new one.

This is not my first purchase from Bud's and it likely will not be the last. Service is consistently good. This revolver was received as expected but the condition was better than advertised. I would rate it better than good. It shoots very well and there are only a few very minor scratches. The gun is used but not used up. I would recommended to anyone who wants a Smith and Wesson at a great price.

Buds service was great as usual. Pistol came with scratches and wear which was expected for a good condition used pistol. The lockup on the cylinder was tight, no movement at all. I did not like the DPA so I hade the hammer changed out and now it is a SA/DA again. The grips were crap but changed those out as well and after a good buffing with the drimel tool, took out many of the shallow scratches. I am very pleased with the pistol now after a little work.
