This SW Pro Series 1911 9mm is a highly underrated pistol. I use it to shoot IDPA and other matches and it is a super soft shooter that gets back on target quickly. It has quickly become my favorite.
The slide to frame fit is tight which helps accuracy but doesn’t cause malfunctions. Its easy to rack and it comes with the best magazines (Wilson Combat).
I replaced the bulky grips with a slimmer set and that feels better for my medium sized hands.
The rear sight should have been rounded and smoothed off at the top. I find that it scratches my arm while holstered in competition.
This gun is an excellent value and I wouldn’t hesitate if you’re interested.

After receiving my gun I went over it as I do with all my new guns I receive. The receiver-to-rail fitting was superbly tight as well as the rail-to-barrel bushing. The barrel-to-barrel bushing was also surprisingly tight too. My gun out of the box tested 4lb 5oz with my Lyman trigger gauge. I was very surprised at the quality of the gun out of the box. Usually I have to Penn (hammer) the receiver rails a little to get it tighter to the upper rail, but not in this gun. But what good is all this if the gun does not shoot accurately. So off to the range I went. I broke in the gun with my typical PMC 9mm bronze bullets in 124 grain. It produced sub 2.5" at 25 yard without resting the gun. I find for me that standing and shooting gives me a better representation than benching the gun, as all things being equal. In short, this gun out of the box needed no usual adjustments at all. I was absolutely surprised at the accuracy of the gun and follow up shots were dead on. If you are thinking on buying this gun. Do it, it was very impressive and for the cost a hell of a lot less costly than a custom gun at twice the cost. I know, the gun is a Smith and Wesson and they are really Not none for being 1911 guys. But this gun has changed my mind.

This is a beautiful 1911. It’s defiantly everything I expected.

The value and quick shipping were great. The gun is very accurate, which I expected. On the negative, the gun was extremely dirty. Not just from factory test firing but it had to be partially disassembled before use. Both the grip safety and thumb safety were sticking due to a tacky residue. The magazine release was also coated with this sticky materiel. I'm not sure if it was factory applied as a preservative or just due to storage issues. This is my third S&W and the first two just needed a minor cleaning prior to use. I was disappointed in the condition this 1911 was in. After a through cleaning I've haven't experienced any problems. Over 150 rounds todate and no second thoughts on the purchase At 50 yards on a NRA slow fire target my best group was about 6 inches at 10 yards the group was less than 3 inches, both shot one handed. I'll give it a 4 out of 5 rating

200 rounds down range so far. very nice trigger and extremely tight slide and barrel fit. Only iffy thing was the grip safety which seems to be loosening up. It wanted to stick a little and stay in at first. Grips have a slight palm swell contour to them, very nice touch. beautiful piece of workmanship. Sights are very nice. Front sight is very tight in rear, definitely target sights. I might try a Dawson front. Ambi safety is great for us lefties. It works very smooth and positive. No malfunctions so far with the Remington 115 gr. fmj factory loads I have on hand. I think this gun has more accuracy in it with the right load. I will be trying others including reloads as time permits. The weight of the stainless and solid guide rod makes this pistol a soft shooting 1911. I think you could shoot all day without fatigue. I cant say that about my polymer guns. Buds did well but I cant say the shipping was great by todays standards. I would like to see a little more communication from the time the buyer makes payment and the item ships. That was about a week in my case and there wasn't any communications during that period. No big deal. Magazines are very stout Wilsons. I bought two more for competition use. Its hard to get all ten rounds in them but I think time and use will see them loosen up a little. This is one sweet pistol, made in the U.S. at a great Buds price.

This is a Beauty of a gun. Have several 1911's in .45 ACP; however, thought I'd try one of the 9mm's. Some say it's taboo, but I guarantee anybody would appreciate shooting this pistol. Obviously not the same recoil, but it sure feels good in the hand. Actually switched the grips, but then switched back because these one's feel and look better. Not problems in the 3 outing's I have had with it. Approximately 300 rounds through it with no ejection problems. Liked it so much, I ordered a matching .45ACP (two tone), but both Pro Series pistols. If you're looking at this one and are wondering "should I?", do it!! Wilson Combat magazines come with it to boot.

I was really looking forward to this gun. If you've done your research, then most of what I have to say about it won't come as a surprise. The finish is a very nice matte stainless. I tried several of my 1911 grips on the gun, but ended up keeping the RoCo grips on the gun. They fit good and unlike my Hogues, they don't cover up the nice 30lpi checkering on the front strap. I did notice that the grip screw bushings were not at all tightened and came off with the screws. The fit of the ambidextrous thumb safety was excellent with very positive off/on movement and no marring of finish on the sides of the grip frame. Barrel/bushing and slide to frame fit was also very tight. The trigger was a bit loose as others have reported on Smith 1911's, but that is easy to fix. The sights on this model are adjustable and solid black. The gun shot a little to the left for me but not a problem thanks to the adjustable rear sight. The grip safety is about the only negative aspect of the gun. The fit appearance is good, but it is prone to sometimes sticking preventing the trigger from dropping the hammer. The trigger is crisp and about 4lbs. I fired 60 rounds of 115 FMJ handloads with about a half dozen failures of the slide to return to battery – just a nudge with my thumb and it went home. (the same handloads feed perfect in my other 3 9mm's) Initially, I lubed the gun with Mobil 1 oil on the rails. After the first 60 rounds, I took the slide off and cleaned the rails and used Rig +P stainless lube instead. The next 60 rounds of 115 FMJ and 147 Ranger JHP had no feed issues whatsoever. I recommend the Rig +P lube 100%. Accuracy – this gun will shoot rathole groups and eat the center out of a target. It is exceptionally accurate and gets back on target quickly thanks to the modest recoil. As far as the grip safety is concerned, it also functions as part of the drop safety. Much like a Series 80 Colt, there is a lever in the frame that pushes a plunger in the slide that allows the firing pin to travel. However, the frame lever is activated when the grip safety is depressed on the Smith where it is activated by the trigger on the Colt. In my opinion, unless you plan to drop your gun muzzle first from a helicopter onto concrete, a drop safety is a complete waste of time. As I said, the grip safety does stick from time to time but it does seem to be getter better. If it doesn't resolve itself over the next 400 rounds, I will send it back to Smith and Wesson for repair. As a informal target gun, this is a great piece but I wouldn't recommend it for competition or carry unless you make sure the grip safety works properly. I also have a Colt 38 Super, and have had Colt 1911's in .45 as well as Springfield and Para Ordnance. For carry, Colt is the way to go for reliability. If you're not tied to the 1911 platform, the gun you should be looking at at is the CZ 75 SP01 Shadow Target Custom. It is about the same price, excellent trigger in SA and DA, no drop safety, and is also very accurate. Mine also has the .22LR Kadet adapter and it will not disappoint and feed anything you put in it. I'm going to give this gun 5 stars for it's intended purpose. As a target/range gun, I don't think you could get better for anywhere near the same price in a 1911 even though the grip safety leaves something to be desired. Rumor has it that Colt will produce a Gold Cup 9mm next year and if so that will be on my list too.
