When the first all-steel small frame (J) revolver was introduced in 1950, it became an instant success. Originally named the Chiefs Special by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, it has become the first choice for those who insist on an all steel, small frame revolver with greater recoil control and proven performance.  The Smith & Wesson J-Frame has become the most popular small frame personal defense revolver on the market. With decades of reliable performance to its credit, the J-frame line offers models capable of firing .22 LR, .22 Magnum®, .38 S&W Special and the more powerful .357 Magnum® loads.  Smith & Wesson offers these revolvers from our production, M&P, Pro Series, and Classics lines in three diverse hammer designs; internal, exposed and shrouded.

I have had this gun for several weeks. I have been using it as my CCW.

Ill start with the good stuff, It shoots well and has never had a malfunction. It is small enough I can pocket carry it, some people may think its too heavy but I don't, I am use to carrying a lot of stuff in my pockets. It shoots about as accurate as you can expect from snub nose. and it has a lot of power.

The bad stuff is not very bad, First of all the trigger was a little weird at first. The pull starts heavy but gets light as you pull (kind of like a compound bow). After may dry fires (with those fake bullets) it seems to have smoothed out.

When I ordered this gun I also ordered the crimson trace laser grips (model 405) They where smaller than the original grips and my perceived recoil is about the same so that is a +

If the trigger would have been better I would have given it 5 stars

p.s. Buds did well and the gun and grips shipped with out incident

As with the last 3 new S&W revolver's I have bought in the past 3 years, this one had to be gunsmithed right out of the box . The cylinder would not completely open. Other problems encountered with the other NEW S&W's included: frequent misfires (648), failure of the cylinder to open at all on certain # cylinders (686 pro), compensators flying off on PC 44 (629). S&W want even bother to answer emails. Quality control is nonexistant. An alternative handgun (competition) is what we need. Colt....please come back with revovlers! I carry a handgun for a living and these revolvers are completely unacceptable.

My first gun purchase! Great gun. I bought it for CCW. Its a bit heavy for the pocket but is great on the belt. Very smooth pull and reliable. Uses 38's at the range and carries .357 JHP. Thanks Buds!!

I have carried this revolver for over 10 years. It is very easy to draw from an inside the belt leather holster.(snag free) Stainless material is very low maintenance. I practice at 25 ft. When I do my part(trigger squeeze and sight alignment) accuracy is very good. I shoot 38spl. cartridges, .357 is too much recoil. The workmanship and quality is excellent. When carried under a t-shirt, polo shirt , or a sweater, it is well consealed.
