S&W has sold the bodyguard style j-frame revolvers since the 1950's for a reason. They are simple, reliable, and extremely well made. This is the 3rd generation bodyguard .38 special rated for +P ammo. The frame is designated 'airweight' for the aluminum alloy frame that comprises most of the gun. The barrel, and cylinder are still Stainless Steel. In an age of more polymer revolvers (like the Ruger LCR) the bodyguard bucks the trend.

The Hammer is shrouded by the frame, but still can be cocked in SA. I found the spring very tight on the first 50 rounds, but loosened up afterward. DA pulled in at roughly 16lbs, and SA is every bit a hair trigger. No matter how proficient you are with CCW, do NOT leave the hammer cocked while holstered.

The grips are very comfy, but are a bit too high up on the frame to work well with speed loaders. I'd just use a speed strip, or changing the grips altogether. Bantam or Hogue make j-frame grips that are specially designed not to interfere with speed loaders.

Because of the barrel size, 5 shot capacity, and recoil this is a firearm meant for home defense use and CCW. In these fields, it is superb. That being said, this is a firearm that you will only become proficient with by practicing regularly.

This is a gun that will be in your collection for years. S&W has a reputation for excellent customer service, and their warranties are usually life time limited. There is a reason why it is exceedingly difficult to find a S&W j-frame revolver now a days, and its because no one wants to part with them.

I'd recommend this to anyone concerned with home defense, with an added emphasis on reliability, build quality, and overall handling. Buds made the process very simple, and prompt. Will definitely buy again from Buds.

I've owned this little revolver for a little over two years now. I've put several hundred if not a thousand rounds through it without a single hic-up. What I like best about it is that although the hammer is shrouded to reduce snags you can still cock it for single or double action. The single action is crisp the double action is smooth and predictable. Just like you would expect from from a Smith and Wesson. It is as accurate as a _2" barrel can be. That being said, it punishes the hand if you are going to be shooting more than a few rounds.

As for a CC firearm, it is dependable, light and very concealable. It disappears great with a pocket or IWB holster and I hardly notice it is there. The only downside is it is only a five round gun so if you carry it as a primary, plan to make every shot count; I've added a CT laser to mine.

And Buds was great as usual.

Bud's service sterling as always. Too bad my security clearance with the fed always slows things down a few days. Fired great to begin with and awesome after I did a trigger job. 11.27 avg double. 1.82. I have a 642 that I improved the trigger pull on and put pink crimson traces for my wife for her to have. Can't ever go wrong with a Smith or Bud's. Hoefully they both stay that way!

This is my 4th purchase from Buds and I have always had great service and fast delivery. I thought I would so something different this purchase and pay via e-check. If you want your weapon quickly don't pay cash. I ordered on the 29Sep, payment cleared 1Oct, credited to Bud's account on 5Oct. Shipped and on 9Oct and delivered on 10Oct. My next purchase will be with credit card or debit card for faster delivery. This little 38 is great for my wife. She was unsure of the the trigger pull at first but realized that she would not accidently pull the trigger. Taking her back to the ranger tomorrow to punch more holes so she can become more comfortable with pistol. Thanks for everything.
