This is my first wheel gun. Smith and Wesson J Frame, model 642. .38 special. I am still getting used to it. The trigger seemed crisp and not as heavy a pull as my friends Ruger. GP100 .357 Magnum. I love the crimson trace laser grips. The fit and finish of this gun is awesome. Shoots fine despite being an aluminum frame airweight.

The 642CT is a very nice little revolver that complements my existing 686. The CT on this 642CT was off to the Right slightly when sighting it in on the day of purchase. Just one-quarter turn CCW in windage brought the CT into alignment with POC. No problems with the CT once aligned. As far as the QC of the revolver, that is another story. After 50rds and 200-300 snap caps, the trigger mechanism started catching on the pull stroke. Had to do a deep cleaning and stoning of contacts. QC of modern S&W is not like it was in 1986, when I bought my 686. The cylinder release was actually gouging a channel in the frame and catching and plenty of metal shavings were visible. It seems that the cast parts have many sharp edges that NEED to be milled before assembly.

That said, once cleaned, stoned, and lubed at a deep level, this 642CT now performs as it should. The only question for the customer to ask is if doing a DIY deep servicing is something you are willing to do with a "new" purchase. If so, then you may truly enjoy ti revolver.

I bought this little revolver to replace a semi auto I was keeping by my bed for home defense. I liked the idea of something shorter to fit in my lock box and something that could always be loaded without worrying about mag spring tension wear. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition. Ive only used the sights the couple of times Ive taken it to the range with mixed results. Not the guns fault but mine. If you have any deficiencies with your shooting form this short barrel will show them. That said even using the weak iron sights I have been able to consistantly hit a 12 " target regularly when drawing from a holster or reaction shooting at 10 yrds. I hopefully wont ever have to use it , but if I do it probably wont be any further than that. Once I get used to the heavy DA trigger and I am able to sight in the laser this baby will be perfect. +P rounds are stout in this lightweight gun but not unmanagable. I had to re adjust my grip cause after a box or two fatigue would set in and the cylinder release would start to bite the side of my thumb. The no lock is the reason I bought this model. I look forward to more SW revolvers in the future and I will come to Buds to get them!!

Had a great experience with Bud's Gun Shop. Placed order one day, receiver it the very next day by noon. I know that's fast and it may not be with everybody's order. I guess i was just lucky and everything clicked together. Very happy with the Smith and Wesson 642 CT.
Thanks Gene
