This was my first purchase ever of a gun. I had limited experience with handguns and rifles, and own an AR-15. I wanted a gun to complement it. After extensive online research I decided on the Glock 22 Gen 4. My reason was the ammo was less expensive than .45 ACP ammo but about the same as 9mm. I do not intend to carry but limit my shooting to sport shooting and home defense, so I did not need the smaller size weapon. My neighbor, who has a lot of experience with guns and has an extensive collection, did not recommend the Glock. The FFL tried to sell me a Taurus. I held out for the Glock, and have been completely satisfied with my decision. I have only put 15 rounds of Magtech FMJ through it, but they fired flawlessly. One reason I chose the Gen 4 was I shoot left handed and I wanted to be able to switch the magazine release to the right. However, when I read how to do that I decided to leave it on the left. This is really not a problem for a lefty if you don't need to reload quickly. The other reason was it comes with three 15 rd magazines, rather than 2. It also came with a cleaning brush and the extra backstraps. I was not clear about how many backstraps it would come with. There are four. There are two different sizes and two different styles within those sizes. Two have beaver tails and two do not. They come in a plastic clip which has the longer pin for holding them in place, and a plastic drift for removing the pin from the grip. The gun felt quite comfortable in my hand without any straps, but I know I have a larger hand, so I installed the smaller strap. It felt about the same but the position of my finger on the trigger is better. The recoil spring was pretty stiff and I had difficulty removing the slide at first. I am sure that it will get easier with experience. For an experienced gun owner this review is probably useless. But for the first time buyer I think you will find this helpful. Glock makes a fine weapon if you don't mind plastic.
