I received the gun at my FFL within a week after ordering. Buds offered a competitive price on a gun that was hard to find in stock. This was my first .22 pistol purchase and I read a lot of reviews before buying.

After receiving the Mark III, I disassembled it for cleaning and replaced the hammer bushing. There were some small shavings from machining to clean out. There is a very important key to disassembly and reassembly. My first reassembly was difficult, until I came across a Youtube video explaining "the dingleberry” and “the cheese" - referring to the hammer and hammer strut. After I discovered the placement of “the dingleberry” and “the cheese”, the disassembly/reassembly process became very easy. In order to disassemble/reassemble, I used a rubber mallet, a paperclip and a wooden dowel made of birch for a punch.

I have fired 2800 rounds through the pistol within 2 months. After the initial 300 rounds of smooth shooting, I started experiencing failures to eject (FTE) every 1/150 rounds. As I continued to shoot, I would get a FTE every 100 rounds or less (with regular cleanings). I replaced the extractor with a Volquartsen extractor and I have had zero FTE within the last 1000 rounds.

The stock front and rear sight are black and I had trouble focusing with a black on black sight. I switched the front sight to a Hi-Viz fiber optic, which is much better than stock. Shooting with the open sights is fine, but I am ready to try a red dot. I ordered a Bushnell TRS-25 that will be arriving soon.

I will offer up a few random suggestions that have made my Mark III experience better; I use Hogue rubber grips with the thumb rest. I use the Ultimate Clip Loader to quickly load magazines at the range. Besides Hoppes Elite, I use Powder Blast and CLP to clean the internals.

The stock Mark III Target is a nice gun, but with some aftermarket parts, you can customize it to your liking. I would suggest a few searches for common upgrades that people make to the stock gun in order to improve performance. This is a great gun and I enjoy shooting it.

My first .22 Pistol, not my first pistol however. This is pretty much the plinker everyone should own. The rail is some serious fun when you add an optic to the pistol. 10 shots, 2 mags, and a great look. The quality is really awesome for the price. So happy to have made this purchase.

Just had to add more info about the Ruger Mark III Target:

I've now fired at least 3000 rounds through the gun, and it has NEVER jammed! I added my scope rail and a cheap red dot and it's dead on at 25 yards! I love this gun! Field stripping may seem difficult for some, but these guns are built like tanks and as long as you follow directions, field stripping and assembly aren't difficult at all. I received a package in the mail the other day from Ruger, and it was a very nice baseball cap with the Ruger emblem along with a Thank You signed by the CEO of Ruger! I've never received anything from any other gun manufacturers to say thanks - just recall notices.

I will happily buy a Ruger 1911 if Bud's ever gets them. Both great companies!
