Taurus Refurbished Tracker Model 44 Blued 44mag Revolver - Blue/Black, 4" Barrel, 5 Rounds, Polymer Grips, 3-Dot Sights

This is my favorite 44 now, it's light and accurate, yet handles my hottest loads without showing the slightest signs of effort. The hammer and trigger show the slight discoloration that you associate with heat treating; I don't know what the process is, but the finish is identical to my S&W M29. The sights are similar to the S&W, but not quite as bright. The white line on the rear is thinner on the Taurus, and the red insert in the front sight slightly smaller. The porting is very effective, while my M29 moves back and the muzzle comes up, the Tarus Tracker moves straight back, very little muzzle rise. The original grips are pretty good, even though the Tracker is a half pound lighter than my S&W recoil is quite similar. I've replaced them with Pachmyrs, the new Diamond Pro model, and while it's quite a bit bigger than stock it's a wonderful grip. Recoil is quite pleasant (for a 44 magnum) and I like shooting the Taurus better than my M29 when the loads are crazy hot! Be forwarned: the fit is very very tight. I installed my new Pachmyr grips, then had to remove them to mess with the hammer and trigger springs, and they didn't want to come off. I ended up driving the grips off with a nylon drift! No harm no foul, just know that those pachmyrs are Tight! Hammer and Trigger springs are rather stiff, so I got a Wolf brand replacement set for a different Taurus 44. The hammer springs were identical, but the trigger spring was different. Trigger pull was around 6, clean but way too heavy for my taste. I have new springs arriving tomorrow, will update when I find the right combination for the 2 pound trigger pull that I like. Conclusion: Refurbs are the way to go if you save any money, they've already been checked out and gone over by the factory. There is no way to tell it was a refurb without looking at the paperwork. The Taurus Tracker 44c is a great little gun, and on top of that it's inexpensive! Trigger pull and hammer pull are stiffer than I like, but the trigger is clean and the action smooth. I highly recommend this weapon, in fact I'm saving my money for a Stainless version that will become my carry/truck gun. That's the highest praise I can give.
