I received my AO1911a1 and all looked good. Took it home to clean it before taking it to the range and noticed that the barrel had horrible chatter / tooling marks all in the rifling. I contacted Auto Ordnance, they asked for pictures so I sent them and they agreed that it was very bad and to send it back for a barrel replacement. Besides the chatter marks, the trigger was very heavy. They had my pistol for a few weeks and called to tell me everything is ok with it and that its a military spec pistol so don't be so picky about the chatter marks and trigger. I shoot cast lead so tooling marks make it a pain to clean after shooting. The guy from Auto Ordnance didn't care and would not replace the barrel. I tried arguing with the guy but nothing helped, his mind was made up and he shipped it back. After I got it back I took it to the range, fired some fmj out of it and it shot significantly lower than any of my other "mil spec" 1911's.
A Rock Island 1911 from the Philippines is a better made "mil Spec" 1911 than this Auto Ordnance.

If you are interested, buy this with confidence. Ive shot Colts, Kimbers, Springfields, and the like, and little difference is noticed, if any at all. In fact, its funny to hear people complain about the "stiffness" of the series 80 trigger system, because it then becomes obvious that these people have never, ever shot a vintage Army issue Colt. Now those things have a stiff trigger on 'em. The Auto Ordnance 1911 is not cosmetically perfect, but they imperfections are so minuscule that you would have to be crazy to be bothered by them. I am very pleased with the quality of the looks and the functioning of this weapon. I think that people interested in a gun like this show taste, and if you buy it, you will not be let down.

If your looking for a modern interpretation of a 1911 this is not it. Its a very good reproduction of the WW2 milspec. Its a solid well built American firearm. I am very pleased with it so far. I've put quite few rounds through it and have had no issues at all.

I've been a 1911 fan for over thirty years, and I've had my share of fine running pistols. But I've always wanted a no-nonsense, back to basics 1911 as close to old government issue as I could find. This Auto Ordnance parkerized GI Model is it. This pistol is well made with a natural balance and feel that's been enjoyed and copied since WW I. There's a great feeling knowing that your .45 is going to eat any ammo, function reliably and put the rounds on target shot after shot. Fit and finish are above average with enough "play" to know that a little dirt or grime won't stop your next shot. This is a pistol you could complete a military reenactment profile with, or simply toss it on the floorboard of the truck. It'll be there when you need it, and it'll work when it's supposed to. Nothing fancy here, but it works. It's accurate and it'll shoot all day long. For the money, I don't think there's another 1911 out there that can compare. Especially when you want American made original GI styling.
