Very accurate out of the box, its ambidextrous safety is easily accessible by the thumb for right- or left-handed shooters. Magazine capacity 8 rounds. High-strength nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel with hard chromed bore for longer life. Open top slide virtually eliminates jamming and stovepiping. Fast, sure target acquisition from standard 2-dot system. Notched rear sight is dovetailed to slide. Blade front sight is integral with slide. An anodized alloy offers superior corrosion resistance. Matte black finish is non-reflective. Provides support for a two hand grip and offers an enlarged opening for easy access with gloves.

I'm familiar with the gun, it's a nice sized shooting pistol for defense and concealment. Control lever is a bit sloppy but not a problem. ONLY problem I have with it... I ordered what this gun is listed as.. "FACTORY NEW" BUT that's not what I received.. It's refurbished and has a departmental OR T&E stamping.. It doesn't look anything like NEW... Looks used and touched when looking closer..

The 85FS has proven to be a great little gun. The grip is noticeably thinner than that of the 84, but plenty long for those with "medium" sized hands to keep all fingers on the gun. The first two magazines of ammo I fired had a few failures to chamber, but since then the gun has been reliable. Admittedly I have not put a thousand rounds through it yet, but I will soon. I didn't do any cleaning or lubricating before the first range visit, so it is possible that with some extra lube and more dry practice, I might not have had those early malfunctions. I have used Remington 88 grain JHPs and some jacketed 95 grain and hard cast 100 grain loads, both of flat nose profiles. The latter two are in the P range, and the Remingtons are standard pressure. All turn in good velocities, as one might expect given the generous barrel length compared to most .380s. When firing over a sandbag, I am able to put a magazine's worth of rounds on a 6" bull out to 35 yards, though some are certainly on the edges. I have not machine rested the handgun. A few things that may annoy users are 1- Cheetahs have rightly earned a reputation for a tight fit when reassembling the top half to the frame 2- I have never encountered a Cheetah that didn't hit a bit high over the factory sights 3- When putting the gun back "on safe" it can be difficult to complete the de-cocking without adjusting the firing grip and the first little click you feel _is not_ a safe position. I tested this and the pistol will fire with the levers between the "fire" and "safe" positions, and the slide may well get stuck in between them, which will require a strong downward push (or careful tap with a hammer etc.) to get the pistol back into operation. I have addressed these points as follows 1- once you hit the "wall" during reassembly, push firmly back on the slide and guide rod while rotating the take-down lever back into lock. 2- I filed the top of the rear sight with a flat file, and deepened the notch with a square needle file, then refinished the shiny surfaces. 3- When going back on safe, I actually use the thumb of the non-firing hand to de-cock. It allows me to keep the firing hand where it is, the fingers of the support hand can still stay around the front strap, and it is easier than trying to press up hard enough with the back of the firing thumb. All in all, both I and my wife really like this gun and she will probably use it as much or more than I will. I would give it five stars if Beretta would address the the nuances of the safety and rear sight, but knowing them, I have no problem with this gun as a defensive tool out to 35 yards. This is a soft running and very shootable .380.

Perfect 380 pistol for the collection. Bought to be my concealed carry daily pistol.

This is my favorite conceal carry pistol. It has excellent ergonomics, is easy to conceal, and is highly accurate verses the common plastic 9's. The trigger is very good out of the box, and requires no upgrades. In a defensive situation it's the accuracy which counts. It holds 8+1 and the single stack magazines are slim, and it's easy to carry a spare. I highly recommend this as a CCW.

This is my second purchase from Buds and both times were excellent experiences. This little Beretta is everything I expected and more. Flawless build and quality. Beautiful design and 100% reliable. Shot 200 rounds through it with no malfunctions using several different types of ammo. The gun is lighter than it looks and fits my medium-sized hands like a glove. Very comfortable and handy shooter with medium recoil that is very manageable. The gun appears to be sighted in at 25 yards where it is dead-on accurate. If you are looking for a classy and high quality gun you might like this little jewel. As a caveat, the slide is a bit hard to rack, but not any worse than any other blow-back operated 380 I own or have used in the past. I also found that it less of a problem with some practice. This is an Italian made gun but it has no import mark which was important to me. Another plus to mention is that the safety decocker lever flips down like a 1911 not up like in the 92FS. Very happy with my purchase, will purchase from Buds again.

The Beretta 85 FS (8 round mag) is a very well made and accurate weapon. It is a little tight at first, but loosens up after 100 rounds or so. At distances of 7 to10 yards keeping a tight grouping is easy with a little practice. Plus, the gun is relatively easy to conceal even for a smaller person. Thanks to Bud's.

I wanted one of these for a long time. Good shipping by Bud's, and pistol arrived in good order. A very well made handgun. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. One major problem. The slide is very difficult to lock back, or rack back to load a cartridge. I mean very difficult. If your hand is sweaty or you have some cleaning oil on it, its almost impossible. The spring is very tight, and there is not much to grab onto on the open slide, whereas you could bring your weak hand across the slide to rack it. I checked with Wolf Springs and they do not have a lighter spring, and I have left the gun in a case with the slide back, maybe to weaken the spring a little, but a month has gone by with no improvement. If you are interested in one of these make sure you handle one before you buy one. I think they made this gun at one time with a tip up barrel, that's the way to go. Don't know why they gave up on it. TC
