The Specialist is one of the newest additions to the Dan Wesson stable. When police departments approached us to build them a more reliable, durable 1911 to replace the ones they had been carrying, we developed a model just for them. The additions that made it ideal for law enforcement also make it perfect for home defense, so we gladly offer it for sale to the public.

A full-size 1911, the Specialist is chambered in .45 and loaded with features to satisfy a public servant’s special requirements. The forged stainless steel slide wears our popular Clark-style serrated rib with a single amber tritium dot in the rear sight and a green lamp with white target ring in front.

The frame sports an integral 1913 Picatinny, 25 LPI front strap checkering, undercut trigger guard and recessed slide stop to enable the installation of laser grips. Equipped with an ambidextrous thumb safety, extended magazine release and detachable two-piece magwell, the Specialist is operator-friendly. It is finished off with a set of G10 VZ Operator II grips that force the hand into the beavertail and hold it there.

The Specialist ships with two 8-round magazines with bump pads and is available in either a matte stainless finish or our Duty Black finish, which makes for an especially hardy pistol that scoffs at everyday wear and tear.

My Dan Wesson Specialist (blued version, not stainless) arrived in absolutely perfect condition from Buds. Comparing costs ($1,536 delivered when I purchased this model) to the current Gunbroker prices for this same model reveals that Buds provides substantial savings, at least $100 and up to $300 plus from what other retailers are selling this top of the line model from CZ for.

Comparing this pistol to an Executive Elite Ed Brown I purchased in 2011 the quality is clear. The Ed Brown had an incredibly tight action and while the DW Specialist was very tight it was not as tight as the EB. I haven't had a chance to take this beauty out as she's been a safe queen due to my work schedule but I expect it will not disappoint. The only down side I have ever read about this particular model (if you can call it that) is that the extended mag well (which is nicely done by the way) tends to shoot itself a little loose after a few hundred rounds. This is easily solved by a bit of blue loctite if necessary.

The price point of this 1911 with light rail is a pretty amazing bargain compared to other models from which I've seen at about $2k. CZ is doing things right since taking over the Dan Wesson franchise as I also have a Dan Wesson Guardian (commander style with bobtail grip) which is also absolutely amazing.

If you are looking for a full size 1911 with all the bells and whistles including a light rail you will not be disappointed and at the current price point of $1,700 for this model I would venture to say you CANNOT find a better bargain that also matches the quality components used to bring this beauty to the marketplace.

Not a whole lot to say about this gun other than it is great! From finish to fit the Specialist is above all the other 1911s in it's price range. At the range it is a tack driver and very manageable recoil. This is one of 3 1911's own that I will not part with! so far 250 rds of various ammo and not a single failure! This one is reliable and one of my go to guns! Buds had a great price on this as I see it going for a couple hundred more on the gun sites. Shipped fast and got it from myFFL in 3 days! Thanks

I got this pistol for a steal...I love the way it shoots...trigger pull is very crisp...sights are spot on. The magazines that came with it are not very functional...and I don't know the reason why so I just sold it. The mags didn't mash well when you slide it in...just replaced it with wilson combat 47D...which always works reliably since I'm not planning to sell this pistol anyways.
