I wanted a 1911. That said, I didn't want to pay $1200+ for a weapon that was going to be a "working" gun. I wanted something that was accurate (hit center mass or place a head shot at 15 - 25 yrds), was inexpensive enough not to worry about taking it into the bush with all the abuse that entails, and finally something that had large stopping power and with which I can unload 5 - 8 rounds in short order. Again, I wasn't looking for a high dollar weapon or collectors item when I bought it. And this weapon is certainly not that but, the RIA 1911 is a very functional, reliable weapon that will eat any 45 ACP ammo I feed it, and I mean anything. It has taken quite the abuse and yet, I have never experienced one Failure to Fire, Feed, etc. It's not pretty but, it goes bang every time. I bought it over 1 year ago from Buds (can't say enough about Buds great prices and fast service) for $409 and, it totally fits my requirements. Your mileage may vary but, for me, I have to say it's my go to handgun.

Fantastic! It shipped rather quickly and arrived just as fast. The waiting period left me anxious, but when I finally got to fire it on Tuesday this week, it worked fantastically. Out of the 100 rounds I fired, I only got one FTF, probably having something to do with the way I loaded the rounds into the magazine, which worked just fine, by the way.

I wasn't too satisfied with the smooth walnut grips, so I had them replaced by diamond checkered ones. Now, knowing that the pistol works fine, I may have the black finish stripped and have it given a gray parkerized or blued finish to make it all the more classical.

I purchased the Rock Island Armory 1911 GI .45 ACP a little before Christmas 2013 and received it December 30th. This is my 6th purchase through Buds and I have not had one issue with any firearm or delivery to my FFL in California. I have also used their layaway plan quite a few times. Great customer service and great products. The Rock Island arrived in a nice foam insulated box, along with a DVD and one 8 round magazine. The gun itself came drenched in oil, but nothing a good cleaning could not solve. I put about 250 rounds down range with CCI Blazer and Federal 230 grain ammunition and have not had one FTF, FTE or a single stovepipe. The 2 Tripp Research 8 round Cobra magazines that I purchased have worked flawless. The gun shoots a little low, but with the proper adjustment is very accurate. Great 1911, tight fit and paid $329. Overall I am very pleased with Bud's and my purchase.

The RIA 1911 GI is a great weapon for the price. The slide to frame fit is very tight with a barely detectable wobble when trying oscillate the slide in one hand while firmly gripping the frame in the other. I give it five stars for the quality of the weapon in terms of how low the price is. The finish isn't the greatest though. Its pretty good on the exterior of the weapon but the barrel and other internal parts wore heavily after one range outing. Ejecting brass is leaving little gold flecks in the finish near the chamber that do not come off with cleaning. The stainless steel chamber area of the barrel visible from the outside of the weapon also has terrible machine marks on it as well. It looked like someone took an abrasive wire wheel across an area that had already been polished. As far as triggers go it has very little take up, but becomes gritty and difficult to judge when it will break. I don't really mind any of these things though because I bought the weapon to learn how to smith 1911s.
