What a beautiful gun. After an initial cleaning I took it out to the range and was amazed by the accuracy at 100 meters using only iron sights. The recoil is completely load dependent. I fired a box of Federal that was high velocity, which kicked like a mule, but I also shot a box of Remington soft point ammo that barely kicked at all (though it did drop farther and required a sight adjustment). All in all though you can't go wrong with this gun, and you can buy whatever ammunition you're most comfortable shooting.

I am very pleased with this rifle. It is a quality rifle that is a work of art. I hope to sight it in this week. I looked around and found that Buds had the best price. My gunshop recommended them. The rifle was shipped promptly and communication was excellent. I recommend this product and am pleased with Buds selection and service.

This gun is an absolute work of art! The craftsmanship and attention to detail is phenomenal and really makes this stand out from most of the average 45/70 rifles out there. It shoots very well, is very accurate, and it's got plenty of knockdown power for Ohio deer season! If you're looking at the pictures of this rifle you've likely noticed the only thing between you and the raw power of a 45/70 round is a beautiful walnut straight stock and a brass buttplate. So how does that feel? Well, the only thing I've been able to shoot through it at this time are leverevolutions by Hornady and I have to put it down after shooting a box as they do start to hurt my shoulder after 20 rounds or so haha. I would probably recommend buying low power cowboy loads to practice with for sure. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and buying through buds was super easy. Will be coming back here for any future gun purchase!

Smooth transaction as always with Bud's. This is one nice looking rifle, the brass and wood look great together and the engraving is nicely done. Action is smooth as silk and the rifle functions flawlessly. Henry makes a high quality, accurate rifle right out of the box in my experience, this is my third rifle from them in three different calibers and all are excellent shooters. I would recommend some sort of add on pad for the recoil sensitive shooter, though, it has a brass butt plate that will get your attention in a hurry if you fire it without having a very tight fit up to your shoulder. The 45-70 packs a serious wallop out to about 150 yards...plenty of killing power for elk, moose, pretty much anything on four legs in North America. It is a bit heavy to lug around in the field, but you'll be glad to have the extra mass to soak up recoil when you fire it. If you want to bring down North American big game "1880's" style this is the rifle for you.
