A+ service from Bud's and my Transfer dealer. Rifle is nicely fitted and finished with really good looking wood with some nice grain figuring on the buttstock. Really pleased especially when buying something sight unseen. I placed it on layaway at a good price and I haven't seen it fluctuate that low since, so I'm pleased about that. I've Installed a Beartooth Saddle ring safety delete and she's ready to rock and roll and get broken in! Based on this experience I highly recommend the Marlin and Bud's.

This is a detailed review for anyone looking to purchase a newly manufactured 1894 (mine was made 2015).
First off, "A" service to Buds'. This is the 2nd firearm I've purchased here and I had no issues receiving the firearm through my FFL. My only qualm is that it would be nice if Buds' took a picture of the "actual" firearm; my 1894 had much darker wood than the picture posted and though I've warmed up to it...I would not have purchased it in person.

CONS: This is the first firearm I've purchased that did NOT work out of the box. Though it cycled snap caps (dummy rounds) it was EXTREMELY rough to cycle live rounds & then jammed after just a few. It jammed on a live round which took the RO 15 minutes to try and pry out. I had to send it back to Marlin (on their dime) and wait a month.

PROS: It's fun to shoot! Now that I have it back it seems to function mostly flawlessly though I did have one jam in about 100 rounds, but it was cleared pretty quickly.

It's California legal! It fits 11 rounds of 44 special in the tube (better than CA 10 round detach mag law) and doesn't look "evil".

It's affordable to shoot! 44 MAG/44 Special is an affordable round to shoot in a rifle if you're not reloading....affordable vs other rifle rounds (.308, 30-06, etc.)

Marlin had great customer service.

Summary:
Marlin MOSTLY did their part by "polishing" the action and paying for shipping both ways though I'm a big believer in doing something right the first time. I will continue to try different ammo until I find one that I'm 100% pleased with. Now that my new lever gun is working, I'm happy with my purchase at the cash discount price I paid. I encourage anyone (especially CA residents) to buy it, though if you have a problem don't hesitate to send it back.

Bought this rifle last fall for Indiana deer season. Dropped 2 deer at 50 and 125 yards.

Metal finish on rifle was good for a rifle in this price range. Wood finish was acceptable, like all new REMLINs. Action was slightly rough but working the action with CLP and it should be fine. Some Oil on the wood and finish will be much improved. Bud's service was great.

Buds did their usual fine job, and the folks at Quentin defense were wonderful as always.

The weapon was better than expected; there are a lot of articles on the 'net regarding 'fixes' for the 1894, but apparently they are for earlier models. My extractor was fine, really everything was in order, if a bit stiff. Being a hopeless tinkerer, all the parts have been polished/adjusted and she runs really slick at this point. What a fun little rifle it is! Lightweight, but not too small in your hands. Delightful.

If you have a problem, then send your weapon to your local gunsmith INSTEAD of the manufacturer, and said local gunsmith has the weapon more than a week; you shouldn't face wild boars in any circumstance. After the first week your gunsmith is only working on excuses, not on your weapon. This ain't rocket science, boys and girls, this is a 120 year old design. It's as simple as the times were back then. A perfect weapon to learn how things work with, with volumes of 'how to' articles on the net. A gunsmith who can't figure out an 1894 Marlin in less than a week deserves one star. A guy who doesn't know any better than to put his trust in him deserves one star. The weapon, in production 120 years later, deserves five.
