I had always been a big fan of Marlin rifles, that being said this is not a Marlin rifle of old. While all the parts of the Marlin are there, the fit and finish is horrible. The checkering was so light it looked as if they never adjusted the tooling to do it properly. The receiver parts were forced together rather than machined to fit. Save your money and look for a good used Marlin with a JM stamp on it to show it was actually made in the Marlin factory. It saddens me that the quality that was once the hallmark of Marlin rifles is no longer.

I just love this lever action as it is but having blurry eyesight I changed the sights for rear ghost sights, I also added a sling and a expandable on stock 6 ammo carrier sock. I love this rifle the most even over my semi's. Only problem is how expensive the 45/70 ammo is and I can't afford to shoot it much. Recoil doesn't bother me. Did I say that I am in love with this rifle lol

Purchase and delivery went well as usual. Arrived in good condition and shoots well out of the box. Has a good kick especially with 405gr loads. Easily managed with halfway decent technique. Shot 2 1/2" groups at 100 yds with Hornady 325 gr FTX. The 18" barrel is awesome in heavy brush.

The front sight hood had fallen off which I didn't think would be a big deal to snap back on. unfortunately it wasn't until I got home that I noticed the lose sight hood had put a small scratch in the crown. The recoil pad had lose rubber along it's edges that I had to take a dremel tool to clean it up. The rest of the gun looked great but you shouldn't have to do any work on new gun, just shoot and enjoy.

Don't believe everything you read about the new "Remlins". The 1895 gbl is a great rifle designed for the serious rough country hunter. And at the price point that can't be beat, you can't go wrong with this rifle.
