Buds service has been fantastic. Ruger on the other hand has fallen short. I was shocked to find rust on the scope mounts that come in a packaged plastic, Ruger should inspect what they ship out. Reloading is expensive out the gates as brass is significantly pricier than my other calibers; however, the brass is high quality by Hornady. The recoil is excessive with 180 grain and far exceeds what my perceived felt recoil was with a previous .308 in 165 grain bullets. I have ordered a limbsaver slip on pad for the recoil as my shoulder was bruised the next day. Not a pleasant shooter. The main negative is the bolt, it consistently binds and makes it frustrating to shoot. Used factory Hornady cartridges the only one on the market, very super clean powder. Intended purpose was for hunting so I hope my follow up shots are not impacted negatively by this defect by Ruger's design of the Hawkeye. It appears it is simply the design of the bolt with a long piece of metal in the Mauser design causing the problem. Keep in mind, I have operated other Mauser bolt systems which never binded or felt so bad. Trigger is fine, no major issues. The gun also arrived with scratches on the finish of the barrel which is disappointing. The stock is fat in the middle unlike the sleeker design of synthetic stocks however with this recoil the heavier wood is preferred. The drop free magazine door is designed not to close flush with the stock, again a defect of the design aesthetically. I stalk hunt that's why I went with the compact size but I sacrifice what I love most on bolt guns, and that's the smoothness of the bolt.
