The Ruger American compact in .223 Remington that I received had a burr at the mouth of the chamber (breach face) that kept the cartridge from being extracted. The burr was likely caused by the factory when they squared the breech face or during final reaming of the chamber. How this got past quality control at Ruger is beyond me. I used a 17 degree deburring too to remove the burr and it seems to be fine now. The rifle shoots about one inch groups at 100 yards.

Picked up my .223 Remington 6914 Ruger American Compact yesterday and fitted it with a very nice Redfield Revolution scope. I like the total overall Ruger American value and as a guy who has more than one Ruger in his safe can honestly say you will not be disappointed with this rifle. USA made, Free floated/tension-ed barrel, the Ruger reputation/ name and adj. trigger. Wow, for under $350.00, free shipping? Might buy another one. This is such a great gun in this price range that it leaves other makers standing in the shadows of shame and regret. Ruger did it right first, the rest followed. I will use Bud's again. Safe, painless and the better deal!

Great Rifle, Stock and Bedding is Awesome, Love the finish on the barrel and receiver, one of the best triggers on an entry level rifle. Full bodied bolt is nice, although the cock on open is very stiff and takes some getting used to. Included weaver style bases are a definite plus. My only concern is the magazine, and the fact that even the magazine latch is polymer plastic, but this is only a concern, as it has not failed or caused any concern yet. Do not hesitate to purchase this rifle. This rifle was bought for a very small 11 year old boy with cerebral palsy, and his father who is handicapped and has a permit to shoot out of the vehicle up here in Maine. It will be used for deer within 100 yards, with Nosler Partitions.
