Great little 10/22 -- has an adjustable pull, it's lite, perfect for my young son to shoot.

Giving this 10/22 4 stars, but with some explaining on why they missed the 5th: First, the rear site was loose out of the box. Second, the rifle shot way left. Maybe 2.5 to 3 inches left at 7 yards. Cranking the windage full right got her to just barely print on point-of-aim. I sent Ruger an email and their response was to have me call customer service. After a quick chat with them, they hooked me up with a FedEx prepaid label. I still had the packaging from Bud's, so in the box it went. After about 2 weeks, Ruger sent the rifle back. They had replaced the bolt, barrel, and front site. I was able to get it out to the range today and it is spot-on with the rear site centered. Nice! The rifle itself is great in concept and execution. The idea came from an Appleseed Project instructor and it is nearly ideal training rifle. Buy a GI web sling and some swivels and she is ready to go! The military style peep sights are great for learning the fundamentals. The stainless steel barrel and bird-cage make it friendly to newbie riflemen. (The flash suppressor is there to protect barrel from being blocked or dinged when a new marksman pokes the ground with it during transitions to the prone position.) I plan on leaving mine bare for now, but the rail would make mounting a scope a snap.

Love my new Design Contest 10/22! Though I'm not a huge fan of synthetic stocks in general, I like the the feel of this stock much better than the normal 10/22 stock. The interchangable cheek piece was a perfect fit for me when I installed a BSA Sweet .22 scope. Use medium scope rings to clear the factory sights. Low will be too low and high will be too high. Medium is perfect.

Bud's was great, super fast shipping and competitive price. I was very disappointed in the rifle. Took it to the range fresh out of the box, still had the stickers on it. First, the sights are way off. At 30-35 yards shooting high and right by several inches. I've never purchased a rifle of any kind this far off. The grouping was decently tight, but no where near where I was aiming. That said, there is no contrast on the front blade; it's just black and did not stand out. Very hard to see. Then there was the stove piping issue... with the factory 10 round rotary and a Ruger 25 round magazine I had 4-5 FTF in 60 rounds. I did some research online and it appears to be an extractor issue that would require me to buy a new extractor or use better ammo. Why should I have to buy parts to fix a brand new gun? For a gun that is supposedly the end all/be all .22 rifle this is not acceptable.

I really like the rifle really nice .my concern is I was a bud member paid and had the poorest service took 10 days to receive something I could get a lot quicker from another dealer , I think bud is just coning !!!!!

I'm a shooter and collector, so this rifle was on the top of my list. I like it, but the sites aren't good with my farsightedness. They may as well be absent. The front site whole is very small. everything is in great working order. Have a temp scope on it now, but will be getting one specifically for this rifle. You can't use the same scope rings as on a regular 10/22 weaver base. Don't like that. Overall I am pleased to add this to my collection and can't wait to get to the range with it. I've gotten a little obsessed with Ruger 10/22s. This is my second one. Many more to come!

Cleaned it, took it to the range twice. It handled multiple types of ammo with only the usual few FTFs likely due to the ammo. It is comparable to other Ruger 10/22's in regards to the action, trigger pull and handling. The good: 50th anniversary stampings, ergonomic forestock, ghost-ring rear sight and protected front sight. Stainless, optics ready, ships with an alternate rear-stock attachment with the higher comb for use with optics. The not-so-good: The front sight dovetail and/or sight are not properly machined. There were burrs on the edges, machine marks, and after struggling for some time to adjust the rear sight, noticed that the front sight was loose and moving side to side with each shot. Took care of this with a drop of non-permanent locktite. There are no instructions anywhere (book, website, etc.) on how to adjust the rear sight. It requires an allen wrench. You loosen one side and tighten the other. You will need to do this often because no matter how much you tighten it, it will shoot loose and move from side to side. Also, the rear ghost ring sight mount (which requires a different allen wrench) will inexplicably work itself loose several times in each shooting session. So you will need to tighten that multiple times in each shooting session. Understand also that the rear ghost ring sight is not elevation adjustable. Altogether, it is a very nice Ruger 10/22. I understand that this is their first 10/22 with ghost ring sights. However the manufacturer needs to make substantial progress on their front sight machining and fit. They also need to work on the mechanical functioning of the rear ghost ring sight and might consider something that can be adjusted, and tightened, with a screwdriver instead of two different allen wrenches. For the issues related to the front and rear sights, I have to give this gun an 'average' rating.
