I received this rifle and accepted it. The fit of the wood to the reciever and barrel is spot on, but there were two things that bothered me. the feeding is a little rough for a winchester m70 and the crown appears to have been altered. The crown didn't look as perfect as all the other m70's I've bought. upon closer inspection, It looks as though the crown may have been nicked and someone took an abrasive into the end of the bore to smooth it out. there is definately fine rotory marks that look like steel wool or sand paper swirls that slide up and down in a spinning motion in the end of the bore, not the even, 1 directional, chatter marks of a barrel cutting machine. I haven't had time to really test it for accuracy, but knowing the end of the barrel was altered makes me a little scared of how this rifle will perform when i get it out on the bench with a scope. after shooting some rounds with open sites, I have noticed that 1/2 of the bore at the muzzle is getting the nice even bullet rubs where the bullet jacket glides along the center of the grooves, but the other 1/2 isn't getting any contact from the bullet jacket. Like I said hopefully this won't effect accuracy, but it's too soon for me to say if the rifle is accurate or not or wether I'll be happy with the rifle

I bought several new Winchesters from Bud's and they did great. Prompt shipping, great prices. This particular rifle is worth considering if you need or desire a large bore. I was a little put out when I discovered how hard it was to get brass for it and how expensive the ammo was. Much higher than 375 H&H. However that is being rectified. Hornady has introduced ammo and brass at great prices and should be available soon. This is great news as you can't rely on Remington to support their cartridges. They won't make anything unless it is huge run. Once again Hornady rescues another great African cartridge.
