Winchester Model 1873 Short Rifle Color Case Hardened .44-40 Winchester - Blue/Black, 20" Barrel, 10+1 Rounds, Black Walnut Stock

I’ve always read that in the old west they chose a rifle and a handgun that took the same caliber for practical reasons. So, needed the rifle. I chose wisely. Beautiful furniture, excellent finish, smooth action and to top it of shoots to POA at 75 yards. There is nothing like a Winchester in your hands. Highly recommend this rifle.

Bought this for a GREAT friend of mine and he loves it. The case harding is FANTISTIC! Good price but felt it should of been a little lower.

After some agonizing, I selected the '73 Short Rifle with the Color cased hardened frame that I received from Buds about 2 weeks ago. All I can say is WOW! The New 1873 is built to **extremely** precise standards. You can see this first hand when removing the expertly machined side plates and the toggles. The wood to metal fit brings a tear to the eye. Action is like butter right out of the box. Miroku is building excellent rifles worthy of the Winchester name. Likes: Grade AA-AAA Walnut stock is just like the wood used on presentation Winchesters of yore. Light weight and handy Action is slick like butter Fit and finish is really superb Polish, bluing first rate Color Case Hardening is very nice . Nice Reds, Blue's and straw colors. Clean trigger break Handles 44-40 cartridges like they 'aint even there Dislikes: No butt trap door for a cleaning kit as found on Original 73's. BOO! Hiss! I like the 20" round barrel short rifle but would have loved a Saddle ring Carbine Bolt extension/firing pin safety is a bit complex and unnecessary. Replace with Pioneer gun works extension. The wood is great but the satin finish just doesn't recall the beautiful multi coat linseed oil finishes of vintage Winchesters. Good news is that John Kay’s Winchester Linseed Stock Oil works right over the factory oil stock finish and brings out a bit more satin sheen plus some red overtones. Very nice!
