Great gun. Trigger much better than my old Mossberg AT100.
Scope is good also.

Firstly, regarding Bud's, the transaction was very smooth and they email you at every step (so expect lots of emails), it's a good thing. I went with the cash option, which is definitely a little slower, due to banks and then additional processing but it was worth it, I wasn't in a hurry. Bud's also notifies the FFL that the package is coming so they know to look out for it, that's another plus. Overall, 5/5 for Bud's. About the gun, I scoped it out pretty easily with about 10 rounds. This is my first rifle and the groupings at 100 yards were within 1.5 inches, likely even less. Experienced shooters should be able to sight it in even easier with less shots. So bore sighting was fine. In the end, it was able to get the job done and I took home a doe at ~75 yards. If you look at the other reviews, you will see that the main complains are about the magazine and about the bolt sliding too close to the scope. Those are all true. The magazine, when completely full, fits awkwardly and fits better when there's only 2-3 rounds in there. It will fill up to maximum capacity just fine though, just sometimes takes an occasional smack to get it in there flush. Honestly, it's not a big deal. No issues with it staying in. If your hand is in a certain position when drawing the bolt back, it may hit the scope. Simple fix is to just not pull it back that way, you can easily pull it back without hitting your hand. The bolt slides smoothly when drawing back, but is a little tough at first to flip it to the "up" position (I'm sure there's a proper term for that). I'm hoping over time it will lessen as I break it in. None of these issues are a problem at all and I'm perfectly happy with it. Now if I had paid $700 then I might be upset, but these are all very, very minor and well worth it for the price. Bottom line, well worth the money, probably the best bang for the buck and gets the job done with no major problems.

Brought the rifle to the range and couldn't get it on paper at 50 yards with a four foot pistol target. Found the scope to be installed very crooked on the rifle and the screws tight. Boresighted the rifle and finally got it zeroed out to 100 yards. Otherwise, the action was fairly smooth and comfortable to shoot. Still think it was worth the money spent.

I finally got a chance to sight this rifle in today. It does have some kick, but unless you are shooting a lot of rounds it's fine. It does make me want to invest into a heavier gun in the future, one that will absorb more of the impact. My rifle was just a bit off in how the barrel sits in the fore-grip, but hey nothing is perfect right? This is why we sight the rifle/scope in, to get it on point. The magazine fed my ammo well and I really like the more narrow grip where the stock begins to meet the action. Once we sighted the scope in, I was pleased with the way the rifle shot. I will buy Savage again in the future! Cons: My bolt was a bit contrary to open/close. Maybe after some usage it will become more smooth. Recoil is a bit more due to the lightweight of the rifle. ( trade off for saving $ ) My buddy felt the trigger was a bit too hard to squeeze, but I did not have a problem with it. It comes down to what you are used to shooting and how well you adjust. It was just right for me. I give this gun a 4/5 for some imperfections, but I'm very critical so my 4's can be similar to other's 5's. And just to be clear on my grading scale, 3 would have been acceptable, 4 is a really good, and 5 would have been amazing. $300 rifles aren't going to be amazing in my opinion, they're made to be cost effective and that means you give up a few amenities like less recoil. The price gets a 5/5 because I picked it up when it was $306.00 and I feel a dependable deer rifle at this price is a good buy.

Excellent gun for the price. If you're just starting out and don't have too much money to play with, this is a great gun to get. I wanted a scope combo and the scope took a bit to sight in. The gun performed without a hitch. This is my first Savage rifle and have no complaints. Bud's, as normal, had great, fast service.
