Buy it! you wont regret it! first day at the range i was shooting less than half inch groups at 100 yards with 168gr federal match factory ammo. Reloads are even better at .3 inch groups with sierra 180gr.

First off, the gun is the best performing long rifle for the money hands down. The first time at the range I was shooting a 150 grain Winchester power points, after 5 rounds I had the gun within the 10 ring with a half dollar grouping. The thing that you need to know is with the 1 in 10 inch twist you really need to go with 168 or 175 grain boat tail cartridge. The 150 grain is a little light so it wants to fish tail coming out of the barrel making your grouping a little large, but now that I have a heavier bullet the gun has a grouping of a quarter at 100 yards. The other thing that might turn you off is the weight, the gun with scope and bipod tips the scale at about 12 pounds, so if your a hunter its not the best.

All and all, i VERY happy with the product and the price from bud's is the best i found any where. Plus with the HS Precision stock you will get some interesting questions about what the gun really is.

Long story short: If cost is at all a factor in your decision, you would be a fool not to at least strongly consider this rifle. In my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find an out-of-the-box rifle with these features and capabilities for the same price or less, regardless of brand.

I debated between this rifle, a few from FNH and similar Remington 700-based models, but ultimately could not deny the higher bang-for-the-buck (no pun intended) factor offered by this one. In my opinion and despite any history, the notion that Savage is an inferior brand is completely unfounded and I have personally proven this to at least two naysayers. On my very first trip to the range with this weapon, two on-lookers asked about the rifle and made veiled comments about its inferiority. Meanwhile, I fired five rounds to establish a group for zeroing and when I was finished I simply smiled, stated that they might wish to reevaluate their opinion, and invited them to have a look at the target. Needless to say, neither one could hide their amazement at the single ragged hole that this fine weapon had just painted. After evaluating the target, I confirmed that, at 100 yards with Federal Gold Match with 168 gr Sierra Match King BTHPs, the entire diameter of the hole measured just less than .5" (from .308" bullets!) after only a good cleaning and mounting of the scope.

The adjustable Accutrigger is simply amazing, especially for a stock trigger, and provides a light pull with little to no creep and a nice clean break right out of the box. Also of note is that, unlike some of the lower end rifles (from this manufacturer and others) these are assembled to very tight tolerances such that each bolt is individually fitted to and serialized to match the rifle. In my opinion that is really impressive at this price point. Further the straight taper, match grade barrel features a nice clean bore and a recessed crown and is generously free-floated all the way to the receiver. When combined with the HS Precision stock and its thick aluminum bedding block, the overall balance is good and the rifle is pleasantly easy to use weather prone, from a bench, seated, or offhand despite its relative size and weight.

If I had to point to any weak points, it might be the finish on the barrel. While not fragile by any means, I have noticed that it seems to pickup scuffs relatively easily. (Perhaps due to the relatively rough texture?) None of them seem to cut through to the metal and many will wipe off with little effort, I was simply surprised at how easily it seems to scuff. Really, it's only of note for perfectionists and even then is only a minor annoyance. If it proved to be a big deal, it would be easy to have the barreled action refinished in Duracoat or something similar and still have a very cost-effective, precision rifle.
