Anthony, it is not recommended since the barrel is stamped .223. 5.56 is a similar but higher pressure round military round and for safety and warranty concerns, it is not recommended. Cheers!

A nice little rifle, but I didn't like the hollow plastic stock so I sold it and bought a Model 14 Classic.

Great gun, light weight and with a decent scope. Nikon 3 x 9 power scope is adequate at 200 yards anything over that a 12X is recommended, may just be the type of Nikon scope which is included with this package however it was very hard to see the bullseye on the target at this yardage.Smooth bolt action and safety release however the clip is metal/plastic which seems cheap and prone to breakage. An all metal clip would be a hugh improvement. A true tack driver once scope is sighted in. Started scope sight in at 25 yards to get on paper and moved back to 100 yards. After ten rounds to confirm zero at 100 yards moved to 200 yards, took another five rounds to zero in at this yardage. Not bad however someone else may be able to zero in with less rounds. Savage indicates scope is bore sighted from factory, don't believe it. I first bore sighted mine at home and out of the box the scope was not even on the paper. Once field bore sighted I was good at 25 yards. I would strongly recommend this rifle.
