These M-38s are in excellent condition!  This is the first shipment we have received in years.

In 1938 a carbine was adopted as the "7,62 mm Carbine, Model of the Year 1938", commonly known as the M38 in the US, but did not go into production until 1939. It is essentially a shorter version of the M91/30 and was built at Izhevsk until 1945. There was limited production at Tula in 1940 and again in 1944. Both arsenals built some M38s on recycled receivers, both hex and round. Tula M38s are uncommon at the least and sought after by collectors as are 1939 and 1945 dated examples. The M38 was not designed to accept a bayonet since it's intended use was by rear area troops. Stocks made in 1939 and early 1940 had the rear barrel band shoulder close to the rear sight base but this was soon moved forward to bring the pattern in line with the typical M91/30 stock configuration, with the exception of the fore-end.

I got this rifle and was amazed at the shape it was in. It had an original 38 stock not a 44 stock. very pleased

Very pleased with this rifle. Came in great condition, no counter bore and all numbers matching. I was also happy to see it cam in an original M38 and not an M44 stock. Shot great with excellent groups at 50 and 100 yards. The bore is still sharp with little wear and not pitting. Over all and excellent gun and another fast transaction with Buds.

Carbine came mismatched and counterbored. Few scratches on stock. Below Average condition.

Received the M38 quickly. The rifle was in overall good shape, very small amount of cosmoline left in the chamber. This rifle is as accurate as you could expect a military rifle with open sights to be. I plan on putting a scout scope on it because my eye's are not that good any more, ( old age) happens to all of us if we live long enough. This one shoots 180 grainers better than the 147's. Very happy with purchase and the service from Bud's. Thanks

First time ordering from Buds and was received in excellent condition, M44 Stock. Serials were all matching. Was expecting cosmoline to be caked all over rifle but it was actually relatively free of it, requiring mostly just a regular cleaning.
