It's a Remington 870. What more can you ask for?

I see some reviews complaining about the finish. The finish on the gun isn't stunning or plated with gold, but I imagine it sat on a shelf with thousands more 870s in a warehouse somewhere. I can manage to wipe off a little bit of residue when it arrives to me because I know these things are made by the truckload. The finish will also have no effect on the performance of the shotgun - it will still fire every time. I'm not completely badmouthing the finish by any means, but know what you're getting into. I also advise you wipe it down after each outing - I've seen a friend's 870 rusty after a few months sitting dirty with sweat on it.

The trigger, sights, and magazine are all standard 870 and they work just fine. One thing I liked about buying the 4 round magazine tube was having the ability to take this thing bird hunting by swapping out the barrel. My father has a spare 26" barrel from his 870 that he bought decades ago. I simply pop off the 18" and put the 26" on and I'm ready to slay birds of the feather or clay variety!

All-in-all, this is the best 12 gauge shotgun around. Accessories are plentiful, 12 gauge is easy to find, ammo types are numerous, and a pump shotgun will always be amazingly reliable if you do your part and not short-stroke it. This is the best no-frills home defense shotgun on the market. I trust it with my life and you should too.

The firearm functions well and is well made. However the finish on the weapon is horrible. After placing it on an aluminum bench at the range the finish is wearing off which was rather disappointing for being the first day out on the range. Other than that the firearm lives up to the reputation. Also if you plan on extending the magazine tube it's probably best if you buy a remington with the factory extension. Other wise you will have to raise two dimples placed in the magazine tube with a dimple raiser tool or take it to a local shop. Since you are raising the dimples you will have to put some kind of protective coating or oil on the surface since the finish will be gone from the tool.

I must say I was a little questionable about buying this as it is Remington's "bottom line" express model. I wanted a shotgun for HD use and to have fun at the range from time to time. Upon receiving it from Bud's I was very impressed with the quality. I've messed with 870 police models and this one cycle's almost as smooth as the 870P's. I put a Knoxx recoil reducing stock and hogue rubber forend on and now it's very nice looking. I recommend changing out the extractor to a steel one and you will be good to go. Definately worth every penny. Fast shipping that bud's is famous for was also nice.
