John - as the M&P Sport II has a carbine length gas system this should fit with no problems. Just be aware, you'll have to remove the front sight post to install it and if you haven't dealt with that before, I would suggest you enlist the aid of a friend who has experience, or be ready to have a gunsmith install it. Getting the pins out of the front sight post can sometimes be a real challenge, even with the correct punch and hammer, and then you will need a torque wrench to properly install the barrel nut for the new free float hand guard. But, that's part of the fun of owning an AR 15 type rifle - the many possibilities to "make it your own".
