Ordered both the round-butt (model 10-10) and square butt (10-8) at the same time. Buds was perfect as always (it is probably unfair how casually we treat their service levels but it is easy to get spoiled). The 10-8 I received was as-advertised. Some minor surface rust on the top strap and side plate, but bore is nearly perfect, it locks up tight, flash gap is very tight, and no flame cutting is evident on the top strap. A great find.

I'm very happy with this gun. It looks just like the picture and is as advertised. It's a keeper and not so expensive or rare that I'd be scared to do a little bluing touchup. Thanks folks.

The bad: bluing is worn off in the usual places, the wood grips remind me of a wooden hammer passed down from my father (they're not quite THAT bad...), and there were a few very minor rust spots near the cylinder release, but those cleaned up easily.

The good: barrel is in pristine condition - I couldn't remove any fouling with Hoppe's number 9, the rifling looks great without any visible damage to the bore or crown. Timing is spot-on. Tolerances are all in spec.

Conclusion: This makes for a great service revolver, and a fun gun to shoot at the range. I'd recommend to anyone looking for an excellent deal on a S&W not looking to pay a comparatively exorbitant price and not worrying about cosmetics.

(My revolver is a 10-8, with a pinned barrel.)
