The Colt 1991 Series is a direct descendant of the original Colt M1911. A long trigger, flat mainspring housing and original style recoil spring system remain from the original M1911 design. Upgrades from the original include white dot sights and a lowered ejection port for extra reliability. It still remains “the standard” that everyone tries to imitate, but no one duplicates.

This is a beautiful and highly accurate gun. The black oxide finish is among the best I've ever seen. Function was flawless for the 200 rounds I've put through it so far and I enjoy 38 Super enough that I have another case of ammo on order. Upon disassembly I discovered that the Colt is as nicely machined on the inside as on the outside. The barrel bushing is very tight and the 3 dot sights are better than I had expected. There is a tiny amount of play in the frame to slide fit. I'm told Colt is known to do this intentionally for reliability. It has no negative effect on accuracy. The trigger is crisp with barely any creep and it actually improved after a few boxes of ammo.

Bought this Colt and loved it. Extremely accurate for what I want it for. Only thing I change was the rosewood grips. I replaced them with black Colt rubber grips for better control and grip. Love it. Budsgunshop did it again. Thanks.

I believe disappointed is the correct word to describe this Colt. It seems Colt is willing to sacrifice quality to save dollars and at almost $900 this is not a cheap weapon relative to price but is cheap relative to quality. There are no upgrades to this pistol. No up swept grip safety(Bevertail) and the Composite (plastic) Mainspring Housing and Trigger reflect Colts strategy of compromising Quality for savings. It seems it would be easy and not very exoensive to at least add some better features and adding a little to the price instead of putting out a cheap weapon. I believe the add ons would not cost more than $300-400 and would improve the weapon greatly. But if you buy this weapon or many of the other Colt Models, you will have to make these improvements yourself or pay to have them done.
Internally the weapon is the same as externally-cheap. The sear, hammer, and disconnector have BAD machine marks and the trigger release is between 5-6 lbs. If you want a better operating weapon these are things that will have to be fixed. Full cock hammer hooks are .025 and the sear face is FLAT and Long. Not what you would expect from Colt but a cheaper production pistol. The barrel looks like a .45 blank cut to the .38 super caliber. Even the roll marks on the outside of the pistol are poor quality.
Bottom line-you might want to consider spending alittle more and buy a Kimber, or Sig or even save your money and get a Les Baer, Wilson, or Ed Brown. Their low end weapons are not that much more and are a lot better quality.
I hate to give Colt this type of review but I own several and they started going downhill this year. I do own several but this is probably my last since I will heed my own advice and save money to purchase a better quality weapon.
I know its not supposed to be included but Buds is still very good at what they do-fast shipment and excellent service.

Try finding a Colt 1991, 38 super at your local gun shop, you won't. Great deal-Great customer service. Awesome firearm-Don't let your local dealer cut down colts, they just can't get them. They are still the best gun for the money. Shoots like a dream
