I've only fired this shotgun about 50 times - so far, so good - no malfunctions and it seems reliable. The gun is absolutely beautiful - and I have to admit that was a huge selling point for me. I came close to getting the Beretta A400, but this gun holds one more round and it much prettier to look at.
I chose this model over the Hunter because it comes with a hard plastic case, two more (5) choke tubes, and the 2nd mid-barrel bead sight. The speed-load feature is a little tricky to get used to - you have to press the shell in with the tip of your thumb and pull it out quickly, all while the lifter is fully lowered. Otherwise it won't speed-load. This is not a big deal because you can always toss the shell into the open chamber and press the button to chamber it.
Note that this gun (Maxus Sporting) does not come with the magazine cut-off feature which lets you remove the chambered round and replace it with a different load without unloading the magazine. I don't see myself needing this feature since I'll fire a thousand shells at the skeet range before I'll get a chance to shoot game birds. I do look forward to dove or pheasant hunting, it's light at 7 lbs and will be no issue to carry in the woods.
Back to shooting it - it is slightly forward heavy compared to my very light Browning Twentyweight at 6.5 lbs. This helps me stay on target, and I got 21/25 skeet in my first round with the Maxus. Recoil? It's the softest shooting 12 ga I've ever fired. Honestly, I actually thought something was wrong with it the first time I pulled the trigger! With my old shotgun, I would have a slight pink mark on my arm after shooting 50 rounds. With this gun, no marks at all.
The gas system is SO easy to clean. I can have it apart in literally 10 seconds. Trigger group and bolt come out easily as well. GREAT SHOTGUN and less $$ than the other premium auto loaders out there.
