I put this gun on layaway about a month ago and finally got it today, I don't think that I've been this excited since the time I bought my truck and Springfield didn't disappoint. When I first purchased the rifle I hadn't told my wife knowing she would say no but when I finally told her what I had done (the day I was bringing it home) she changed her mind when she saw it. The reason that I'm saying this is because this gun is so beautiful that it was able to make an angry wife change her mind about a gun purchase. I've wanted this rifle for almost 10 years and am glad that I finally was able to fulfill my dream of owning it.

This rifle is by far one of the most fun to shoot. After adjusting the sights to spec and zeroing the rifle at 100 yards, this baby shoots like a laser. Optics are optional but really not necessary if you know basic rifleman marksmanship. Having most of my experience shooting the M-16A2 in the Marine Corps and comparing it to the M1A1, I can not understand why the M-14 was replaced with such an inferior rifle. The maximum effective range of the M1A1 is 1000 yards easy, without loss of muzzle velocity. This rifle is truly the last great American battle rifle. If you have been hesitating to purchase an M1A1, I say do not hesitate any longer. Give yourself a chance to own a reliable and a historic masterpiece of a weapon. If you buy the Scout Squad model and have not used a muzzle break before, be warned. The rifle will be very loud, so loud that the sound was very distracting to near by shooters. Even scared a few!

Finally got this off buds layaway program and wow. Absolutely beautiful. The above picture is a little misleading. The stock that comes with it is a much darker color. Much nicer than what the picture represents in my opinion. Rifle is solid. I dont know what would hurt worse being shot with this thing or clubbed with it. This is the best craftsmanship i have ever seen in a gun ive purchased off buds. Shoots like a dream. The trigger is outstanding for having 0 gunsmithing or tuning. Have a good buddy who has the scout in synthetic. Spend the little bit extra and get the walnut. The rifle will be a little heavier but man does it look so much better with the wood. This is the happiest i have ever been with a firearm. Thought i was gunna have to fight my ffl transfer dealer to get it away from him. If you cant afford it go layaway option and be patient if you can. This one is worth the wait. Comes with some really good coupons too for accessories directly from springfield. Bottom line is this rifle turns heads anywhere you can take it. Shoots even better than it looks. Dont wait, dont think about it, buy it!

Overall exp with buds is good. Took a week to get the m1a. Everything about the gun looks beautiful only blemish I saw was on the bottom of the buttstock there is a small chip out of the wood but its not major or something that would concern me with use of it in the future. Magazine insertion is pretty stiff at first but after working it for a while it will loosen up. Im am very happy with my purchase an excited that I finally have a M1A. Buds was the cheapest price at the time for this gun me an my FFL dealer checked his suppliers an other shops, even better than slick guns.
