Description

RUGER & COMPANY INC Model SP101 Revolver

Ruger 5 Round 357 Magnum/Fixed Sights/Stainless Finish & 2 1/4" Barrel

The Ruger SP101 revolvers are smaller framed guns which still can handle powerful .357 Magnum cartridges. They also feature a smaller Ruger cushioned grip system with no exposed metal at the back strap for shooter comfort, the patented triple locking cylinder mechanism that securely locks the cylinder into the frame at the front, rear, and bottom, and a stainless steel frame that has no weakening side plates. Built as some of the smallest, most powerful, smaller frame revolvers on the market, they feature Rugers rugged durability and are engineered for solid performance.

Nice gun. Compact and reliable. Heavy duty frame reduces recoil of powerful .357 round.

Recieved my ruger sp101 two days after placing order. Excellent service from Bud's as expected. Great shootinh little gun, and will become a favorite, I'am sure. A set of Badger grips and were set. Until the itch comes back , then off to Bud's for another order.

I will start with Buds, they were once again good to deal with, once my layaway was payed off my new snubby was at my FFL in a matter of days.

As for the Ruger SP101 at first glance it seems like a typical Ruger, well built...like a tank. Gun arrived in good condition, lock up was nice and tight as it should be. Gun was fairly clean, just a little packing grease or slight powder residue from factory test fire. Cleaned up really quick and easy. No scratches or marks or discoloration anywhere to be seen. Factory grips were much better than I thought they would be, I have large hands but they didn't feel too bad, only downside is the cheap looking plastic side plates they put on the grips, some nice wood panels like the 4" SP would have looked much much better. I did replace the factory grips with Hogue grips right away though and they feel much better in my hand. Fit and finish is excellent, cylinder takes a little muscle to get open but I'm sure with use it will get smoother. Trigger is nice and smooth with no grit but its pretty heavy, especially in double action which in a carry gun is not always a bad thing. Again in time it might get lighter with use and dry firing but I also have a Wolff spring kit ready in case I can't wait that long. The sights are...sights. For what this gun is intended for they are very workable, however I will be changing out the front sight for something with more visability. An orange front post or some night sights would be many times better I think. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I have test fit a variety of ammo and the cylinder is plenty long enough to chamber even the long Buffalo Bore 180 grain Hardcast rounds. I have Hornady 125 grain Critical Defense 357 Magnum ammo for carry purposes, we'll see how much bark this little monster has with these hotter loads. For people more recoil sensitive than me 38's could easily be used. It should be alright on recoil thought its a fairly heavy gun for its size, about the same weight as my Glock 27, about the same size as well. Overall I would recommend this revolver to anyone looking for a nice Summer Carry gun or a house/truck gun or even a sidearm for hiking or hunting.
