I wanted a quality revolver to add to my collection without breaking the bank and the Ruger SP101 was a great choice. I searched on many websites and the reviews on this weapon were very high. I used Buds layaway program and once it was paid it was at my FFL in two days! My 4th time dealing with Buds.com and everything went perfectly. As for the gun, it is built like a tank. I checked it over well before accepting the transfer and there were no issues. I do recommend replacing the grip as the factory one is small and cheap feeling. I added Hogue grips and loved the new feel. It took me a few times at the range to get a bead on the sights. I'm not used to the low profile sights on revolvers. Once I was dialed in the grouping was tight from 15 feet away. The weight of this gun easily absorbs the recoil. I love having the option of using .38 rounds at the range and .357 loaded in my nightstand. The 2 1/4 barrel makes this an easy concealed carry as well. I highly recommend this weapon and as always Bud's was about $100 cheaper than walk-in stores. Thank you Buds, can't wait for my next purchase.

This is a fine weapon- very accurate out of the box- It likes all weights and both 38 and 357 loads. The 158 grain loads (I tried 3 brands) all gave significant recoil- but were accurate at 1-15 yards. It liked the 38+p loads and recoil was not that noticeable. The fit and finish of the weapon was flawless and I liked the sight picture on the weapon and the grips seem to give good purchase and take up some of the recoil. As always (it seems to me) Ruger has made a superior product. If you need a concealable gun or a belt gun for field use this one would work well.

Nice gun. Compact and reliable. Heavy duty frame reduces recoil of powerful .357 round.

Recieved my ruger sp101 two days after placing order. Excellent service from Bud's as expected. Great shootinh little gun, and will become a favorite, I'am sure. A set of Badger grips and were set. Until the itch comes back , then off to Bud's for another order.

I will start with Buds, they were once again good to deal with, once my layaway was payed off my new snubby was at my FFL in a matter of days.

As for the Ruger SP101 at first glance it seems like a typical Ruger, well built...like a tank. Gun arrived in good condition, lock up was nice and tight as it should be. Gun was fairly clean, just a little packing grease or slight powder residue from factory test fire. Cleaned up really quick and easy. No scratches or marks or discoloration anywhere to be seen. Factory grips were much better than I thought they would be, I have large hands but they didn't feel too bad, only downside is the cheap looking plastic side plates they put on the grips, some nice wood panels like the 4" SP would have looked much much better. I did replace the factory grips with Hogue grips right away though and they feel much better in my hand. Fit and finish is excellent, cylinder takes a little muscle to get open but I'm sure with use it will get smoother. Trigger is nice and smooth with no grit but its pretty heavy, especially in double action which in a carry gun is not always a bad thing. Again in time it might get lighter with use and dry firing but I also have a Wolff spring kit ready in case I can't wait that long. The sights are...sights. For what this gun is intended for they are very workable, however I will be changing out the front sight for something with more visability. An orange front post or some night sights would be many times better I think. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I have test fit a variety of ammo and the cylinder is plenty long enough to chamber even the long Buffalo Bore 180 grain Hardcast rounds. I have Hornady 125 grain Critical Defense 357 Magnum ammo for carry purposes, we'll see how much bark this little monster has with these hotter loads. For people more recoil sensitive than me 38's could easily be used. It should be alright on recoil thought its a fairly heavy gun for its size, about the same weight as my Glock 27, about the same size as well. Overall I would recommend this revolver to anyone looking for a nice Summer Carry gun or a house/truck gun or even a sidearm for hiking or hunting.
