Savage Arms Mark II BRJ 22 Long Rifle Bolt Action Rifle - 21" Barrel, 5+1 Rounds, Wood Stock

I've been buying a lot of 22lr target type rifles lately. Although I have a safe full of centerfire rifles that I reload for, the powder/primer shortage is just starting to become less painful. Time to shoot 22lr. I have a CZ 457 MTR I bought here and with it's Arken EP5, it shoots 'lights out' as expected. I have a lot of Savage rimfires and decided to add another to the collection. I read every review I could find and picked this model. Although I broke a Debit Card buying every type of 22lr ammo I could find, this rifle shoots 'almost' as good as the MTR, and that's saying a LOT! I started with Norma TAC 22, I found it didn't like it. Switching to the good 'ole standby, CCI Standard velocity, the groups were excellent. Due to the heat here in Florida, I didn't bring any of the 'match' ammo to my range. I expect the groups to shrink even more when I put in a new trigger spring, etc. The ONLT negative I can find with this Savage Mark ll is the included 5 round magazine is garbage. Luckily, I have 3 of the 10 rounders to use. I've 'tweaked' the 5 round mag for longer than I care to admit, and it still sucks! ron

This is a beautiful rifle. Well made and exceeds my expectations. I got quarter inch groups 25 yards first time out with it. Wasn't hard to sight in either. I saw this Savage Markii BRJ and knew i had to have one. Shot it last weekend in the local NRL22 match and lets just say the gun will definitely out shoot me. Great feel and an absolute tack driver. This is one of those guns that will be with me till the end! I previously had a Markii FV and was completely satisfied with that one but due to a change in class rules was able to upgrade to the BRJ. Fit and finish is definitely better and the stock is both comfortable and great looking, not to mention the spiral fluting on the barrel really makes this gun stand out in a crowd. First three shots out of the gun at 50yds with cci standard velocity rounds could be covered with a dime in typical Savage fashion. I use this rifle in competition only and I have found it to be exceptionally accurate with the right ammunition, which is Federal Ultra Match. I consistently out shoot shooters with much more expensive equipment.

Item arrived in a very timely fashion, was found to be missing the two swivel points in the front of the stock. Contacted Savage Customer Service and they agreed to ship me a free replacement stock with the included swivel hardware, so that part is good but still slightly annoying. I find it picky about ammo, but with CCI and Eley shoots fantastic groups with a great trigger. The bolt required some work as it is very sticky, possibly due to the gritty nature of the barrel finish. Overall great shooting 22 with an good look, but unimpressed with Savage Quality Control.

I have shot the rifle and it seems to be a very accurate rifle for the price without breaking the bank. If anyone is looking for a bench rest 22LR at an affordable price I would definitely consider this one.

The Mark II BRJ is my second Savage rifle and I couldn’t be happier. I purchased it for benchrest competition, and while I don’t expect to beat multi-$1000 guns, I do expect to post respectable scores. Fit and finish are decent, but the accutrigger and overall accuracy are outstanding. If functionality is your top priority, you can’t go wrong with a Mark II.
