I got the gun and was immediately disappointed by the light, hollow, cheap feel of the stock. It doesn't mate very tightly with the barrel or receiver, and there is noticeable flex of the stock and foregrip from the metal parts. Due to this lightness, the gun feels a bit front heavy. It got even heavier once I added a bipod, but I suppose that's my own fault.

The box magazine doesn't fit easily into the mag well, and you have to be careful to line it up so it doesn't get in there crooked. Once in, it has trouble feeding. Shells feed unevenly so you have to jiggle the bolt handle while sliding it forward to get the nose of the shell to go into the chamber straight. Also, a shell doesn't always feed, sometimes it requires multiple workings of the bolt to get it to work correctly.

The scope was loose and all the screws needed to be tightened down - the ones holding the mounts to the gun, and the ones holding the scope to the mount. Perhaps due to this, the gun didn't appear to be bore sighted. I fired three rounds from 100 yards and missed my 12"x12" target. I'm not a sniper by any means, but I should be able to hit that. I walked to 50 yards, three rounds, no hits. From 20 yards I fired one round and grazed the far right side of my paper. Extrapolate backwards, and the gun was shooting 30" (2.5 FEET) or so to the right at 100 yards.

I walked (sprinted) it in and got 6" groups at 100 yards before it got dark and I had to quit for the day. The scope itself is decent.

Every time I pulled the trigger the gun went bang, so that's a plus. However, I think Savage could have spent a few more bucks and bulked up the stock and paid someone to make sure everything is buttoned up on the gun before shipping it out. I doubt it'd cost the consumer, me, that much more.

I took one star away for the horrific lack of bore sighting, and/or negligent assembly of the weapon. I took another star for the cheap stock and poor magazine.

I just wanted a relatively inexpensive rifle to take out hunting in the mountains when the weather is less than ideal. Hopefully it'll fit that bill, but only time will tell.
