This is a solidly-made, accurate little rifle. The iron sights seem awfully high at first, but when shouldering the rifle. they fall right into place, at least with my normal cheek weld on the factory stock. 1" group at 100yd (with Remington UMC 150gr "green box"), although groups start spreading out after that (open sights + my mediocre shooting to blame, not the gun, I strongly suspect). Can't wait to get a scope mounted up and see what it can really do at range. I have some tall Ironsighter see-thru mounts coming to mount optics and still retain the iron sights. Fantastic trigger...rivals some of the best I've ever shot. Absolutely crisp...

This was my first Bud's purchase, but it won't be my last. Fast shipment (delayed by some UPS buffoonery, but that's no fault of Bud's or my LGS), great price, product as describes...can't ask for more.

This is the second Hog Hunter I have purchased. I sold the other thinking I could get a better rifle and was left wanting… I am able to get sub MOA out of my rifle with Hornady 155gr SST right out of the box. This is a great hunting rifle and with the barrel profile it is great for average long range shooting too! All in all I have had great results with mine. I have killed two bucks with two shots one at 250yds, and one coyote at 250. This is a rugged hunting rifle which is very accurate for a factory barrel. The only thing I wish were better from the box was the tightness of the bolt in the action. But its a sub $700 gun so you get what you pay for. BTW the Barrel seems to be the same barrel used in the Savage Law Enforcement series Model 10 carbine http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/models/. This gun will achieve sub MOA with the right scope and bullet combo, and shooter of course.

I bought this rifle because of the short heavy barrel that helps accuracy while not being terribly heavy. I am happy to say that this rifle does just that. I cleaned it up and headed to the range as soon as I got it. I sighted it in with cheap FMJ ammo. I then fired a 3 shot group at 100 yards with some Hornadyt interlock 150 grain SP hunting rounds I had reloaded. It was a one inch group. Every round was just touching and they were spread left to right. There was a varying right to left wind of 10 MPH, so I am sure that the group would have been closer to 1/2 moa without the wind. The stock is cheap and I'm sure that replacing it would be necessary if I was intending to shoot past 700 yards but the stock does free float the barrel. Even if you support the rifle at the very end of the forend, the stock still easily clears the barrel. I am very pleased with this level of accuracy from a sub $500 rifle. I mounted a Bushnell Elite Tactical 10x40 scope on it. It works pretty good with this rifle for target shooting. I think this model savage is the best repeatable accuracy you can get for the money. Good luck.

I got mine a few weeks ago and took it to the range last week. I like the green stock, but that's subjective. The barrel is fully-floated and is nice an "meaty". I put on a wide-angle 3-9 Burris using #46 Weaver mounts and medium Leupold QPR rings, there's no problem with the rather high open sights. That way I can switch easily. I put two kinds of commercial ammo through it and they were quite different at 100 yds despite being spec'd similarly ... but that's not the rifle. The bolt feels great, This is my first accutrigger. Overall I really like this setup.
