Have owned this gun for 8 years now and have shot approx. 800 rounds through it and have never had a single issue, jam, failure. This is still my EDC and I clean it every once in a while, nothing special. This is a great handgun all around, well made, and accurate enough for its compact design. This was my first Springfield pistol and I enjoyed the brand so much I have purchased more Springfields since this purchase.

I thought I would like this gun more than I did. The short grip/long slide is often touted as perfect for concealed carry. In practice it makes holsters somewhat harder to find and the balance seem off. I would imagine the overall features of this gun are improved by the Mod2 version (which isn't offered with the long slide) but it still has the unnecessary magazine safety. I think there are better choices in this super competitive market segment.

This is my first Springfield XD “S” model and as the “S” implies it is slim and thin, which allows for it to be a good choice for EDC. For those of us who have large hands the 4” barrel balances the gun in the hands nicely, however I suggest getting a Hogue rubber grip or something similar to swell the palm and magazine extenders that will allow your pinky to properly grip the pistol. I fired JHP’s from several different manufactures and the gun cycled and ejected each round without a hiccup.

The fit and finish on this weapon was excellent. Very nice firearm. I am giving four stars because the placement of the slide release combined with my grip caused me to "thumb" the slide, preventing it from locking back after the last round was fired. This was not an issue with the firearm necessarily, but I encourage any potential buyers to try one out for themselves before purchasing.

Love it! Received my XDS 9 4.0 April, 2016 and have run close to 2000 rounds through it already. My two issues with it are: First, the trigger. I don't know if it is the pistol or my finger, but, I've worked up a callus where the flesh pinches between the end of the trigger and the trigger guard. Possibly, a trigger kit may be a remedy and improve the trigger pull. Second, remanufactured ammo fits a bit too tight when chambered. Reman. ammo works well with no FTF or FTE. But, when I try to manually eject live rounds to clear the chamber, they're wedged so tightly, the extractor slips off the shell. I have to lock the slide back and use a wooden dowel through the muzzle and CAREFULLY tap the round out. New ammo works flawlessly. Haven't had one FTF or FTE. As of the time of this review, I have received a total of seven guns from Bud's. The quality, prices and service are exemplary! Thank you, Bud's!

Once again buds came through. Fast processing and great price. This is the third firearm I've purchased for Bud's. The gun itself is great! I'm a big fan of the xds so I may be biased. The extra 0.7 inches adds just the right amount of weight and sight line to make this a very accurate handgun. The small length on the handle makes this a great everyday carry gun. A good iwb holster makes this my new go to ! Thanks buds

What a great little conceal carry gun. Great EDC. It's easier to put my holster one when I am getting dressed in the morning so I normally wear this gun all day long! Love it!
