This was my first venture into an O/U and I couldn't have chosen a better valued yet quality shotgun! I've taken my Spartan out clay target shooting now 4 times and over 500 shells without a hic-up! The ejections are great, the auto select and eject mechanism matches my buddies shotguns costing 4 times the price. My wood is flawless and the metal finish is very good. My only problem was with the initial inspection at the FFL shop. The forearm wood piece was split. But Bud's took care of the return shipping and I had my gun back in my hands within 7 days with express shipping - all on Bud's nickel. Way to go Bud's!

Maybe just an anomaly, but the first time I fired my new Remington/Baikal 12-ga. OU ordered from Bud's both barrels fire simultaneously. Both barrels were loaded with 3" magnum waterfowl loads and the gun nearly jumped out of my grasp. The recoil was excessive, but there was no apparent damage to this ruggedly-built shotgun. Experimentation with snap-caps and singly-loaded barrels indicated that this was a consistent factory defect in my gun. When the top barrel was selected to fire first (push the trigger forward before firing) it appeared that the gun would filre the expected sequence.

The gun is currently undergoing warranty repair, but I had to ship it cross-country from Oregon to Rockledge Florida with attendant shipping and ilnsurance charges, the delay in receipt will probably burn up the remainder of the Oregon waterfowl season, and I don't yet know if I will have to pay a FFL dealer about $30-$50 to recieve the gun back when repairs are completed.

All expenses included, it still remains a reasonably economical price for a basic OU shotgun, but some of the glow is off the rose for me.

just received my spartan on friday, looked it over and I am very pleased with the fit and finish of this firearm. I had a chance to put a few shells through it and it performed as advertised. I guess Im curious why anyone would spend 10x the amount of money for a gun with similar features,I guess the furniture is prettier. Also, two thumbs up to Buds for a smooth and worry free transaction.

This shotgun is one of the finest values in a quality Over & Under. Shoots great, well made, easy to handle - ideal for the new Trap/Skeet/Sporting Clays shooter or just taking the occasional dove or pheasant.

Quality wood on hand-guard and stock. The comb, length of pull, and rise are adequate for medium to large shooters. This is not a custom gun by any means, but the ergonomics wont get in your way. I am 6'4" and 230 lbs with long arms and this gun points naturally.

Sights - a simple brass bead on the barrel rib makes for a simple yet effective sight - low profile so it's not fragile. Depending on your needs this is a possible upgrade, depending on shooter preference.

The SPR310 is a single trigger configuration and as built, fires the LOWER barrel on the first trigger pull. An over ride mechanism is built in to select the top barrel to fire first - simply move the triiger FORWARD after loading the gun and closing the action. You will hear a subtle click and the top barrel will now shoot first - you must do this every time you load your gun if you wish to shoot top barrel first!

The machining is a little crude and tool marks abound - but fit and finish are excellent. This gun will seem tight at first - over time the joints and bearing surfaces will get smoother.

The gun is delivered greased, swapped in plastic and preservative paper. The wood was in excellent condition and finish when it was unboxed. The metal components - action/receiver, barrel, external blued finish - needs a good cleaning and wipe down. Remove all the grease and be with a quality gun oil. Keep your oild away from the hand-guard and stock.

The ejectors are adjustable to simply extract the fired shot shells instead of flinging them out of the action when the action is opened - a nice feature.

Overall a fine gun delivered with the great service from Buds.

By the way - these folks are some of the nicest, professional folks in the business. Gun store people/owners generally are hard to work with and lack decent people skills - Bud's Staff are amazing - courteous and helpful. I will purchase from then again and refer my friends, family , and colleagues. Their store in Lex is a real treat.

Oh yeah, one more thing - the manual for this gun is not in the box, but easily available from the Remington Website here:
