Quality weapon for the price! Having sent several rounds down range, I am impressed with the accuracy of this entry-level weapon. I have also yet to have a single issue with it, except for the fact my sons want to monopolize it whenever we go shooting.

Works great, is accurate after I got it sighted in as it was low and tobtge left from factory sighting. No rails but you can add them if you want. Nice handstop at the end too

When I bought this rifle at a sale price it was a steal. Only $474. It came pretty loaded. However, it does come with some cons. The rear flip-up blackhawk site was horrible. The trigger was one of the worst mil-spec AR factory triggers I have ever used. Also, the waflle plate it uses at the end of the stock is very uncomfortable. However, I did replace the trigger with an ALG Defense ACT trigger that I bought on sale for $55. I then contacted Blackhawk to order the rear pad from the recon version of the this rifle only to learn that it was an OEM part and not for sale. I then contacted Savage Arms and explained my delima and they promptly mailed me one. I then replaced the rear flip up sight with a fixed rear sight from Troy Industries. I also installed a forward assist. The lower has the port for a lower assist but does not come with it installed. If that is important to you, then install one. I myself have never had to use a forward assist, but it was inexpensive and easy to install. As far as function and accuracy, this gun is fantastic. The only con on shooting was it was very uncomfortable prior to obtaining the buffer recoil pad. After it was added on, it was a joy to shoot. If they would just put in a better trigger and include the buffer/recoil pad (or at least offer it for retail) I would have given this a 5 star review.

I have had good experience with Savage in the past, but this time is a disaster! Cleaned it, took it to the range, it did not fire and bolt stuck--had to butt slam to get the charging handle unstuck. The bullet pulled off the case and powder came out. After clearing, the same thing happened. Cleaned it really well, scrubbed with brass brushes, bore, chamber, barrel. Then I had failure to feed, the new round would jam against the old brass and the charging handle got stuck a few times. What a mess. I tried many military mags and Magpul--same problems. I did not shoot steel cased ammo, only Federal and Win. It did shoot about 12 rounds normally. Called Savage, they said send it back, did not offer to pay for shipping--so much for the warranty! We'll see what becomes of this, but proceed with caution if you believe all the Savage PR hype about this great rifle! I regret buying it! That's the end of Savage for me.....

I love this gun. It's reliable, fun, and of great quality. As far as my experience with Bud's, I don't have any complaints. The rifle was shipped promptly, it was exactly as described, and the transaction could not have been easier. Great value too!

To start, I like to say that I received my Savage MSR 15 Patrol from Bud’s before the predicted arrival date, which was terrific and Bud’s made everything easy and hassle free; it also helps that Bud’s currently (09/2017) has the lowest prices on the web for this terrific rifle and their customer service was great with any questions I had. The Savage MSR 15 Patrol is a great rifle. It’s accurate and sturdy. The BLACKHAWK! furniture is nice, but honestly not 100% preferable in my taste only because the buttstock is slim and creates an uncomfortable and sharp dig into the “pocket” in my shoulder, but this can easily be fixed by adding a new buttstock (with ease) or buying a ‘limbsaver’ pad. The BLACKHAWK! handguard is pretty convenient as it’s surprisingly very solid, it also has a hand stop at the end of the gaurd designed into it, finding the right rails to snap into it is kind of a pain, but once done, you shouldn’t have any problems. The rear sight is super comfortable, the only complaint I have is that, since it’s flippable, it’s kind of a bear to lock down (but I also have large fingers), so I attached a RDS on my Patrol, with an absolute cowitness, and it was extremely comfortable and easy to add and zero. The Pistol grip is perfectly suited. As for the rifle itself, as I said, is sturdy, and well built. It’s 1:8 twist ratio is a plus since it can accommodate most grains of ammo, but 62 and 77 grain ammo is deeply recommended and works perfect with this rifle. The trigger is a mil-spec 5 pound pull, so it’s all about personal preference, I personally like a 2-3 pound pull so I’ll be adding a drop in trigger later on, which will be easy because of the way the rifle comes apart, it’s solid and stays together, but tears down just as easily as my M4 did when I was in the Army for easy cleaning and modifications. I’d recommend an angled forgrip and not a vertical (which I’m usually the opposite about that) because it feels more natural with this rifle. When you have a fully loaded 30rd magazine (the rifle includes a second generation polymer MagPul 30 round 5.56 magazine), it balances the rifle to absolute perfection. As for the more minute details, this AR matches or exceeds other ARs in the market in this price range, all the parts work beautifully. The accuracy is incredible, I’d recommend throwing about 100 rounds down range to break in the barrel a little and get to know how she handles, I promise you will love every pull of the trigger. This rifle is ABSOLUTELY worth every penny spent, it should be priced higher and I have a strong feeling that I’m the future it will increase in price. But since this rifle is still fairly “new” to the AR family, it’s comimg out cheaper to builds its name. Long story short, do I recommend the Savage MSR 15 Patrol? Yes.

Product came in Savage cardboard box wrapped in plastic with one Magpul PMag, child lock, manual; rear backup sight is a cheap piece of plastic and virtually useless. Product came without forward assist. Was disappointed to find out that the patrol with forward assist priced about $50 cheaper. Cleaned machining grease off of all surfaces of product and lubricated with dual purpose gun cleaner/oil. All internal components look clean and flawless. Single stage mil-spec Trigger heavy and gritty but no other rifle triggers to compare; gun lube made a little better but still really heavy and dirty compared to my HK VP9 stock trigger. Happy overall with look and feel of product. It's my first rifle, first MSR, so was excited to try it out at range. Took to range yesterday. Replaced stock rear sight with UTG BUIS dual aperture rear sight adjustable for windage. Shot 44 rounds of 223 Remington 55-grain fmj Federal American Eagle - no issues with loading or cycling ammo whatsoever. 36 shots on paper at 50 yards - very first time shooting a rifle. Range master helped me get sighted in. Front sight perfect...possibly 1 click low but good to go out of box. By the end of the session was shooting bullseye in 1-inch grouping. Have yet to clean first time after shooting. Hopefully no issues. Very happy with rifle.

4 stars because it was not disclosed that the Forward Assist is non-operational. Because of the price of the weapon I'm sure that the company had to cut back on some amenities . I don't mind that , but when you do so, make it above board. I saw several reviews on Utube ,and not 1 reviewer said a word about the Forward Assist being non functional.
