Springfield Armory Scout Squad M1A 308 Win. 18" Black Synthetic - 18" Barrel, 10+1 Rounds

Wonderful rifle -- shoots pleasant - I haven't tried long distance but what a pleasure to shoot. The stock pad wasn't a perfect fit but still attractive rifle --- this scout squad is perfect size!

Great fun. Wish I had ordered one with the wood stock. Ended buying the stock from Springfield for an extra 209 bucks. No fault of Buds.

This is the exact rifle I needed and at a great price thanks to Bud's Qualified Professional Discount program. The M1A is the scout/squad version can lay down lead quite fast as well as present very accurate groups. It's recoiled is very well tamed with the combination of an extremely efficient muzzle break / compensator and the soft yet durable recoil pad. I was pleasantly surprised with the packaging. It comes in a soft padded / zippered case with Velcro adjustable tie down straps. The case also has a small exterior pouch with 3 interior pockets to hold full size magazines as was plenty of additional space to accommodate extra accessories such as cleaning kit, multitool, etc. On the inside of the main compartment where the rifle is strapped down, there is a clear panel sleeve sewn to the case with a Velcro opening. This pocket is large enough for the included field manual, addional instructions and other documents included with this rifle. The rifle includes a 20 round magazine as well as a little red plastic flag for use an empty chamber indicator when stored or at a public range. Everything is packaged insided a simple cardboard box which is easily discarded. Bud's went a step further and packaged the box inside of another perfectly sized box for discrete shipping. Shipping was slower this time compared with my 2 previous purchases from Bud's, but it got here and I'm satisfied customer. Piece of advice, buy more mags while you still can.

I just took delivery of my new Springfield M1A Scout/Squad rifle today, purchased through Bud's Qualified Professional Program. To say I am well pleased would be an understatement. I have owned M1A's before,including a Standard and a Super Match, but this is my first Scout, and I am quite surprised at the difference of 4 inches in overall length makes in balance and handling of the rifle. Simply put, for me, the Scout is a much better "fit" for what I will be doing with the rifle than the full length model. I mention this because I was very much on the fence about which to order, but a knowledgeable customer service rep at Springfield told me the accuracy standard was the same for both weapons (3 inches at 100 yards) and that I would not giving up anything by going with the shorter rifle except a little velocity. By the way, he also told me that the accuracy standard for the "Loaded" models was the same 3 inches. Interesting. He did tell me that the Loadeds come with better triggers, but for $35 I could send my trigger group in to have it worked over to the same specs as the Loaded. My unit came with the black synthetic stock, and is very businesslike in appearance. The box mine came in was marked "Law Enforcement Sales Only" and the rifle shipped with one 20 round magazine, even though the website says it comes with a 10-rounder. I also received a very nice Springfield black Cordura carrying case with an outside pouch for three magazines (which was a nice surprise, it is NOT a cheap case) and a coupon for discounted accessories. I have no idea if civilian rifles come with the carrying case or not. Everything was bolted on tight, and felt good. I only had 50 yards to work with today in limited test firing, but I found the trigger to be quite serviceable as it came out of the box. Five round groups with 150 grain Fiocchi FMJ went into just about an inch with the iron sights, which are great by the way. I find the 3 inch claim for 100 yards completely believable. For years, the only rifles I kept around were M4 carbines like we used as patrol rifles. To me, they all pretty much feel the same. But shooting this Springfield after not having one for years was a completely different (and better) experience. When you hit a piece of steel with the .308 cartridge and it rings loudly and swings wildly when hit, you feel as if you have accomplished something, I'll gladly put up with a bit more weight in order to get that level of power. Bud's price and service was, as always, top notch. If you are ready to step up to a real rifle, buy yourself an M1A in just about any configuration. You will be glad you did.
