I was looking to put a short barrel on my 870 for home defense and found this at Bud’s. Nothing fancy but just what I was looking for.

After looking for months for a security barrel for my Remington 870 12 gauge, I was happy to find one on Bud's website, which I learned about watching Hickok45! The price was inline and I was really wanting the blued finish but was happy to get the matte barrel! I was surprised how fast the barrel came, 2 days earlier than I expected being a neighbor state I am sure that had something to do with it. The packaging was not damaged and the factory clamshell was in tact BUT Mossberg needs to package their barrels better! This barrel finish was rubbed off about 2" in length at the muzzle and another area near the receiver! This is not Bud's fault! That is my only disappointment but it fits perfect and cycles great. I did clean it with a bore snake real good using CLP before installing! Thanks Buds for excellent service and competitive pricing! Just wish the finish wasn't messed up on this brand new barrel! -Regards

Basic barrel for basic home defense. Barrel is as advertised it fits and functions properly. It has cycled 00, 04 and light game loads without any hang ups. Did polish some rough edges but for a basic home defense 870 the price is right.

Barrel finish fits pretty well. Length matches up perfect to the 2 mag extension on my 870 Express. Only issue is the barrel was scratched all to hell when I got it. Not sure how that can happen to a tightly packaged barrel but so be it. Overall okay but kinda pissed it looks like crap from day one. I guess that's what you get at this price point. And honestly it's a home defense tool, not a show piece.

Great price on this doesn't excuse what I see as shoddy workmanship by Mossberg. How does a product that comes sealed in clamshell packaging get blemishes in the finish prior to opening? I'd have to say quality control is not a top priority there which is a damned shame. The finish overall appears to be quite thin. It already shows wear from cycling the fore-end a few times. There's a bit too much material in the ejector slot, and the chamber is a separately mfgd piece. This quite unlike the really nice old Wingmaster barrel I have for comparison where there's no evidence of the chamber being made separately. A bargain at the price paid here at Bud's, just don't expect pretty or perfect.

Just received the barrel a few hours ago and have not yet shot it. Overall, I'm pleased and it appears to be in perfect working order. It installed on my Remington 870 with ease and cycles flawlessly. The finish looks EXACTLY like that of my 870 Express' receiver. It seems to be slightly lighter weight than the 20" Remington slug barrel it replaces, but completely sturdy and well-built. The wall of the barrel appears to be a tad thinner than the Reminton barrels, but this shouldn't be any big deal and I'm not even sure if I'm correct in this observation. The bead sight appears to be aligned correctly and is not canted or bent. The mount for the bead sight does not protrude through the barrel like some cheaper shotguns I've owned. All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase. One unusual observation: Apparently, the manufacturer (Mossberg) ships this in a plastic sleeve that's actually big enough for a 28" barrel. Maybe to save money by having common packaging? Buds then packages it in the next size box: a 48" box: all to ship an 18" barrel. Sort of amusing and at first glance I wondered if they shipped me an entire shotgun by mistake! :) As always, Buds shipped quickly and the order was very easy to place....too darned easy! :) I would order from Buds again and I would recommend this Remington 870 barrel (made by Mossberg).
