This rifle as ordered was just a starting point. I began handloading and using the stock gun the best I could manage were1.5 inch groups at 100 yards. The 220 Swift is a FAST round. 42 grains of H380 behind a 40 grain VMAX registered over 4200 FPS using a chronograph. My brother, whos much more experienced at benchrest shooting convinced me to change out the stock and trigger, which to be charitable, are junk. I installed a Bell and Carlson stock and a Timney trigger set at 1.5 pounds. My groups are now a little over 1 inch, and I believe with more practice/experimentation with handloads I should be able to shrink them further. Happy I finally own a Swift and ordering from Buds was easy as always.

First time ever ordering a gun online and couldn't be happier! Placed order Saturday evening and had it we'd afternoon. Price was good too, over two hundred dollars less then Cabela's. I would highly recommend Buds if your looking to purchase a gun or shooting supplies. Frank S

Really nice looking rifle.Where else would a person find a 220 Swift without going to a custom? I ordered this up for a friend. He is super excited with it. He installed a Timney trigger. Yes the thing shoots.

I first wanted to buy a Swift back in 1965 but had to wait 51 years to get one, and I'm pleased with the gun. Yes, I'd prefer a walnut stock but the price and availability of the Swift both posed obstacles. I know Remington doesn't get a lot of love but this rifle performs well, feeds from the magazine cleanly and accuracy seems good, but am still developing loads to better that. Hornady brass is reasonably priced and available as are factory loads at some shops. The fluted barrel loses some weight so this bench rest rifle can be humped into the field. Time will tell if it measures up to a 204 or 22 250 for varmints, but for now, color me "satisfied" with both the rifle and Buds.

A:It's a fact of life that the more overbore you are the shorter the barrel life. If you want long barrel life get a .223 . When the 220 Swift came out the barrel steels were not as good as today and the powders available didn't help erosion either so it's better now but you'll see throat erosion at 2000 rounds for sure. Keeping it super clean will help accuracy at that point but any cartridge that uses lots of powder to get high velocity is an expensive hobby.See 2 more answers |
